Removal of Helmoltz resonators

I’ve searched and can’t find anything definitive about what impact removal of Helmoltz resonators have - anyone done it?

I’m doing it for two reasons
1. It’s a weekend car so I’m just chasing sound
2. I’m making up a carbon airbox and could do with moving things back a little and that would be easier by just removing all talker gubbins

Not being rude but please save the ‘that’s how BMW intended it’ stuff. I’m trying to get the best sound possible out of this wonderful engine 🤓
 
Removed on mine and an enclosed cone filter fitted. No issues, measurable increase in performance. Due to being fully enclosed, IATs sit at 3-4 degrees above ambient, just like the stock system, but the sound is better from outside the car with more bark.

If you truly want the best sounds, you need to swap to an N54 inlet manifold, an enclosed cone filter, and increase the rev limit to 7600rpm.
 
Got any pics of your setup? Did you replace the intake hose into throttle body with that 'generic' N52 hose? i.e. goes straight from MAF into throttle body and dumped all the sound resonator gubbins?

Did you fit the M54 intake? Sorry, lots of questions there! :)
