Remote

Hi,

I am bring my Z4 to a specialist BMW guy tomorrow... he works as a mechanic for BMW and has his own workshop in the evening... he seems to have all the gear (so i have been told).

My main reason for visiting him is for him to run a diagnostics to see what is wrong with my windows (i think regulators are gone although others don't seem to think so) and i don't want some cowboy ripping my door panels off to find what the problem is.

Anyway, to the point... i also asked him if he is able to reprogram my remote fob so that i could operate the roof from the fob. I am aware that this is a standard feature on the facelift models although considering i have a 2003 he suggested that he might need to overwrite the complete computer which can take up to 24 hours.

I am aware that several users based in the UK with 2003 Z4's have had this work done to their car / fob. I would like to know a little more about this before i visit him tomorrow as i don't want to seem clueless, any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance

I think this is leading up to a price that is way more then can be expected ... please ensure you agree on the cost prior to getting a huge bill.

54 plate cost me £25 and had all my codes read. Took 10 minutes. However have now moved on to a Reinhold module now, its so much better, press keyfob 3 times and it opens or closes without having to stand near the car holding fob button like a muppet, You may as well just put the key in the door and do it. now I click 3 times and walk away while it closes.

I don't know what the problem with your windows is but it seems unlikely the 'regulators' plural have gone. They are a mechanical component and thus unlikely to both break at the same time.

Frankly if this guy wants more than £20 to pull the codes and more than another say £25-£40 if he successfuly programmes the roof, then I'd leave him to it, given he's sort of moonlighting

Door cards are 5 minutes to remove to physically check inside.

Thanks, i understand what you mean about the regulators but they didn't exactly go together, prob 2-3 days between them and to be honest it was prob my fault (or everyone here on the forum for not giving me advice on lubrication for the windows when i asked... :poke: just kidding

The windows seal were squeaking a lot due to the small bit of sunshine that we got here and the windows were prob under a little bit of strain when they were in motion.

Thanks for the advice guys... i'l update when tomorrow and let you know the story, thanks again

Fairly easy to fit if you like lying in the footwell with your legs in the air trying to join wires together,

This is the web page, Just over £125 I paid, delivered

http://www.techtronics.de/xtc/product_info.php?info=p4_BMW-Z4-Cabrio-remote-open-Interface.html

one of the best mods I have done, highly recommended.

there is a link on there ("mounting guidelines") for fitting instructions so you can read and decide before you buy.
Also Reinhold sell modules that mean you only have to press the centre console buttons once and it will go through the whole process without holding the button, and another module which means you can open or close whilst still moving at up to 20mph.
I just had the first, its the best one IMO.....and so much better than looking like a poser holding your keyfob button outside the car. This way you click 3 times going to or coming from the car and no one sees you do it.

Is this the same as the techtonics? just (potentially) cheaper

Although i guess you need to be carefull if you have a hardtop fitted :o

a different make but yes looks the same functionality. If the hardtop is fitted you could just pull the fuse. Stops inquisitive passengers playing with the console buttons too.
