Anyone on this list fitted one of these (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130327809024&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT)?
How much work was involved and are there any step by steps?
Cheers
Russ

You will probably need to open the compartment behind the glove compartment, slide out a multiplug and then fiddle around connecting 6 wires to the standard wiring.

I have a similar module, but haven't gotten around installing it yet. Now looking into having it installed by one of my installers.

Russ - My top opens and closes from the main key by holding the respective open close button for a few seconds and then holding it as the roof opens/closes. I have fitted the Reinhold roof module which allows one push operation from the vehicle instead of holding the button down to open/close. The fitting is 'fiddly' but the instructions that came with it were very clear about what to connect and where - took about 45 minutes to do. This involved removing the ash tray ( http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=BT12&mospid=47795&btnr=51_4931&hg=51&fg=35 - part 15) and switch unit and splicing about 6 wires into the loom. There is a single screw in the base of the ashtray unit which once removed allows you to pull the ashtray unit out. Make sure you cover the surrounding trim with some form of protection as it's easy to scratch as you remove the ashtray - which is a 'snug fit' and needs some gentle pulling to remove. The ebay advertised module looks to be a Reinhold module and the link below for Reinhold takes you to the site advertised on e bay so would imagine the fitting is the same. Hope this helps.

It's a very good module. I have purchased 5 or so and fitted 3.

Some people report their Indy can programme the car regardless of age to do the same as the module so worth doing a few forum searches and seeing if anyone is in your area.

The Reinhold module itself as said is an easy fit. 4 wires under the ashtray and 2 under the glovebox. They have to be soldered though and the under glovebox are fiddly. Thos module and the one touch sister module make the car how it really shoudl have been built

CJ Think you will find they still have to keep their finger on the button though.

The Softtop Module is located on the left side of the car, behind the seat. If you remove the rear vent from the trim behind the seat, you will see a white box. That's it....

Sure - let me clarify. Programming of the key, if it can be made to work, would only open and close the roof by key. The one touch is a seperate Reinhold module that operatesd the roof by touching the open or close button for about 1 second.

jan - yes - if you contact Andreas Reinhold direct he will do deals. I have a few times now.

Shipkiller - no need to access the roof module to fit the Reinhold unit. It's spliced in below the ashtray and in to a connector plug on the left side (above and behind the glovebox on a RHD car)

Just to clarify a bit further

One Touch Module - Uses the open/close roof button in the centre console

Remote Roof Module - Uses button on the key which you press three times to open or close roof.

Just to throw a bit more into the mix, what happened to his module for operating the roof under 25kph (not stationary)

That's the one I want, and you don't see them anymore. Maybe I should email him..

with the one touch module does the car need to be running through out the closing process? what happens if you turn the car off midway?

roof carries on moving until opened/closed which is what I like about it, just stop press button and then move off whilts it's still going, just dont floor it. :D

oh brilliant! that's one thing i hate about the roof. you have to be stationary! sounds very tempting now.

Actually if you try hard enough you can stop it mid cycle.... Turning the engine off then opening the door to get out, would stop it mid cycle. Don't know why you'd want to do it, but the question was asked. Under normal circumstances it can open or close fully, with or without the engine running. I oft do this from my office window if rain threatens.

I've never see the Reinhold module advertised for the Z4 having the ability to open/close while moving. I think other modules do this. Of course the roof was never designed for that. Once you start the cycle as stated above you can drive off, but of course with care.

well if your getting out of the car then it would be nice to press the button turn off the car and get out whilst it's closing.

Google is quite useful isnt it..

I'd like that, plus the one-touch and get my key programmed.

Has anyone had the key programmed for roof-up? I've tried two Indi's and neither could do it, one Autologic, one BMW M1 or whatever it's called.

In fact that place sell them all, worth a look:

The Techtronics is what I have ready to install... The 25kph module is easily programmed to 50kph.

I had the Reinhold modules in my Audi Convertible. I got them after I did a testdrive in a 1 series convertible and could open the roof after a small rainshower just driving in the city center... :)

Fitted the Techtronics modules...

While approacing my car, I can open the roof. While driving in the city, I can close it when it starts to rain by just hitting the button on the dashboard once :) Install took 2 hours for 3 modules, and the instruments, middle panel and panel under glove compartment box had to be removed.

The single touch module also allows you to program the "close doors when driving" by the radio control buttons.
