I remember reading sometime ago about some module you can open and close your roof with, via your remote key where do you get these from firstly and are they simple to install?
thanks

Have a look at these for the Reinhold module

...and this one about what Mattt is talking about, getting an independent to programme the car, although I believe there is only one person who is able to do this currently, based in East Yorks IIRC?

Independent? Mine is being done (supposedly) by BMW when it goes back in to have other work done on it.

Didn't think they were allowed to do it. 2005 onwards can drop the roof from the remote but can't put it up, only with the key in the door. Pre-2005 can't use the remote at all, only the key in the door.

Unless BMW have changed policy, then they won't be able to enable it for you, be interesting to see if they have though.

The salesman said they would do it for me, as the other car I test drove did it - just waiting for key no.2 to arrive from parts first.

Fingers crossed! :D

My 2004 works putting the roof down with the remote.

Yep, sorry MY 2005 which would be mid-2004 registered onwards-ish

My 2006 post facelift model lowers the roof with the remote - simply press and hold the unlock button.

You cannot close the roof with the remote - but you can close the roof and windows with the key in the door, if you hold the key in the lock position.

At least it did both of these until yesterday when the electric roof decided to stop working at all. I can raise and lower the roof manually and the roof will still lock into place, so it's going back to the dealers for repair under warranty next week. :headbang:

I think you need to the Reinhold modules to get the full functionality.

It also eliminates having to hold your thumb on the button while the roof opens or closes, which is virutally impossible to do in one hit.

This might be news to some but i have had my key programmed on my 2003 car to open and close the roof:smart:, 2005 onwards only is a myth it cost me £40 to have done and is alot less hassle/cheaper than the module....

Well I have key number 2 (and 3 and a new tyre but that's another story) - and they said they would do it but it's a 2/3 hour job - so they will do it when the car goes in (yet again).

I had mine done last month at an indy in Hull, another forum member had hsi done there toowhich is how i got to know about it, intrestingly while doing the coding the guy told me it's a car perameter not a key perameter that is enabled for thie remote roof function to operate..

Yes it was me, got mine done some time ago, it now operates via the key, up and down when holding it. Auto Logic based in Hull did it. He also switched on soem other features whilst i was there, well worth a trip.

Now I didn't know it could be programmed to close as well as open. You learn something new every day on this forum  I wonder if there's anyone in the North West can do this? If not I may be having a trip to Hull!!

hull is a bit to far for me to go for such a mod is there anywhere in the midlands that would do this????
