Remote roof opening

Still exploring the various functions of the Z4 and have just discovered that the roof can be retracted with the remote control, but cannot be closed with it! Is this normal?
I know that that full opening and closing is available with the comfort access pack but I did not order this.

You've basically answered your own question, as you don't have the comfort package that's why it won't go up with the remote. Will only go down, if you want to put the roof back up whilst outside the car you will need to remove the key from the fob, put it in the door and turn to lock, keep it held there and wait for the roof to go back up.

I've only used that function once so far but there was a few times on my old car I put the roof back up from the outside using the key in the door

Thanks Angie4m, will give it a go tomorrow.
Bit mean of BM not to upgrade the software to allow remote closing but I guess that might involve anti pinch sensors.

Would mean the comfort pack wouldn't be as attractive to some. It's always been that way with the electric folding roofs for years with BMW. Ideally you should open and close the roof with the engine running because if the battery is running a bit low it can cause problems with the roof function and you wouldn't want a roof stopped mid movement.

The roof can be made to go up with the key fob if the car is coded.

Komfortschleisung is the name of the variable in the GM5 module IIRC.

Do you mean if the dealer re-programmes it? For a price.

EDIT - Just seen you could be talking about a new Z4, which I am not sure on the below. It is true for the older one.:

The dealer won't do it for you as it is not an option in their programming equipment.

The car is totally capable of doing it however, it is just switched off in the computer at the factory. Search the forum for 'coding' and you will see a thread I posted on recently with others here about what options we have coded and switched on.

You need someone with NCSExpert and the right OBD cable and it is a 10 minute job.

Get yourself a Smarttop unit. I and a number of other forum members have these little boxes installed in the boot. They give you one touch key fob remote open and closing roof.
