Delighted with my Z4. Used to have a MX5 mk2.5. All went well until today. Doing some DIY to the front of the house with Z4 keys in my pocket. Neighbour knocked on my door later on to check if I meant to have the roof down on the Z4 as it was tipping it down with rain. I gather if you accidently press the right combination of buttons on the key the roof will open.......and you may / may not be aware that it’s happened. Why? Why? Why? does a Z4 need a remote roof down function. Can it be disabled?

Hi and welcome. Saves valuable time for us die hard top down drivers - even on my roadster which doesn't have the 'one touch' module/gismo I can unlock the car and by the time I've walked to it the roofs down ready.

Unless you have a gaptech module fitted - which requires a sequence of button presses in quick succession - remote opening can be programmed into the key as a long hold of the unlock button. If you have your key in your pocket in tight jeans (for example) this can trigger the roof. Happened to me in my first z once. It is a convenience thing, though I find the gaptech better as you can also lock the car and put the roof back up as you are walking away.

It’s hard enough holding your finger on the key continuously to open the roof. The chances of the key in your pocket having the button pressed for 10 seconds or so I would say is impossible.

I don't understand why people have to keep their keys in their Jean pockets when they have no intention of going to the car right now.
Obviously if you have a key in your pocket you can accidently unlock the doors. In your case the roof even.

In your case. I would simply after opening the door leave it unlocked and put the keys in the house. Or if you really have to lock the door and stick the keys in the tool box.
I absolutely hate having car keys in my jeans pocket. Always jacket where there is no fear of accidentally being pressed.
