Remote roof lowering-

Hi all-just tried lowering the roof from the key,the windows went down the roof went half way then stopped with a red flashing light, does this mean a weak battery?

No, you most likely lost connection with the key. Try doing it aiming it at the rear view mirror as that is where the receiver is and do it from really close.

its handy if say you left your roof down outside your house.. and then see dark clouds approching.. you can then raise it from within the comfort of your home!

Yes, distance of operation is very poor. Still nice in the summer that you can open it from outside without having to get in the car first. Also lets the heat out that way before getting in (heat? what is that ... :x ).

You can not close it remotely with the standard available operation though.

Not quite sure why the distance is so poor.. My key can unlock my car several meters away, but the oem remote roof can only lowered within a couple of meters... and often only if i point the key to the car.

maybe they did that intentionally as a safety feature so you dont do it accidentally from within your pocket.

Cheers chaps -i know its not good practice to do it without the engine running, but i wanted to see if it was programmed on the fob :)

oh yeah i forgot about that!

OP what you really want is the reinhold remote roof... three clicks (and you do not need to point the key at the car either) and it will lower/ raise the roof.

Perhaps there is interference somewhere close by. or less likely a partly flat key battery.

My roof can be opened and lowered from 50+m with ease as demonstrated in the Lakes, so fundamentally the systme is just fine.

Rheinhold module of course does the raise and lower, but for clarification it still uses the same car/key sensor circuit.

Opening the roof with the engine not running will put more stress on the car battery, but besides that I don't see any downside of using it..
