Remote locking 2003/4 Z4 SORTED!

Hello, newbie to the Z4 world here (well, about 2 years now)..........I have one key for my car which used to work the central locking and boot opening by pressing the button on the key fob. Unfortunately this has stopped working - what do you all suggest I do to start the process of resolving it?!

Thanks for your help.

Welcome to the forum - finally!

It sounds like the key battery has gone flat - assuming the key still works if you put it in the door lock.

I believe the keys are sealed, so to change the battery you have to cut them open so it'll probably never go back together properly! :(

But some people have been able to revive them by putting them next to the charger for a Braun electric toothbrush (assuming you have one).

Failing that it depends whereabouts you are - forum member "ducklakeview" in Cheshire cuts and codes new keys, or there is a firm called bmkeys in E. London. There is another forum member in the Cambridge area who can code keys if you get one cut but I can't remember his user name offhand.

Hope you can get it sorted.

And don't forget to join the forum properly with some photos of your car. :)

Try charging it on an electric toothbrush base. The batteries are rechargeable and do this when in the ignition.

I considered one of these

There also seems to have been a spate of people with receiver issues in the rear view mirror. Try holding your key directly in front of your windscreen in line with the rear view mirror. Does it work when you do that? If so, your mirror might need replacing. I'll have a look for a thread regarding this.

Found it:

Now fully sorted, the issue had nothing to do with the keyfob initialisation in the end. The RF receiver range had dropped ridiculously low to 15cm in an exact spot in front of the screen, all other positions and distances were not working leading me to believe my keys were not working. I finally concluded it had to be the interior mirror and replaced it with a second hand one from ebay. Both keys now work fine from an acceptable range. :D

SORTED! I put the car on a trickle chagrer with the key on position 1, then used this link to reset the key.....
