remote key not working

Hi guys,

I have tried searching but couldn't find anything. 07 z4 coupe remote key work and not working intermittently. When I used the key to lock the door, the gas door stays locked so I know that this is not a fuse problem. I have also successfully reprogram the both keys and it still work and don't work sometime.

When I press lock it doesn't work, if I press lock repeatedly *sometime* it works and sometime it doesn't. Most of the time unlock doesn't work but if I drive my car around a bit it will work again, but the next time I go to my car after a couple of hours it won't work again..

I understand that the battery is automatically charged. Any help guys?

The battery is yes charged automatically until its life ends.

Is this happening with both keys or just one?
Does it happen everywhere or just in a specific area? Sometimes the transmittion is problematic if you are at an area with high frequency spectrum density. (Like near at high power electricity transformers, broadcasting antennas, etc)

it happens with both keys. You know what, it happens when I reached my house (just bought it over the weekend). I am going to drive it to work tomorrow and report back. Some pics (I should probably post a thread in the newbie sections).

what the bleep is that stuck to the front of your car :o

certainly sounds like the battery as end of life - odd though for both to be playing up.

Welcome to the forum :D

As it happens with both keys, it is propably due to ''Jamming", as said before.

For a 2007 it is too early to have both keys with battery dead.

NICE CAR!!!!

Those are painter's tape to prevent rock chip when I picked him up 400 miles away. :D

I drove to work today and everything seems to be ok, I will have to try it again in a couple of hours as usually it's ok too after driving for awhile even in my house area.

Is there anything the dealership can do if it's really jammed to high frequency? This is a major inconvenience as I usually have a lot of things to carry in the morning.

Its not the 'high frequency', its the 'high density environment' around in RF (Radio Frequencies).

I dont think it can be done anything.

To fully confirm that this is the issue, try it as you said in your office after a couple of hours, as well as to other places too.

I had the same problem in my previous house area. After looking around carefully it was nearby a powerfull electricity transformer....

yea it definitely happens only nearby my house area, went around everywhere in my work place without any single problem of the remote not working. Once I reached my home tonight, the remote does not work anymore.

Thanks for your help konas!!!! I can definitely see huge transformer and all kinds of tall metal structure around my house which is in a hilly area.

Its good that you have found the reason.

Altough, regardless of the key problem, i would suggest to find a technician to measure the "transmittions" in your area, and to report to the authorities, because this is not good for your health as well.

There are i.e. reports of headaches related.

I will go around my neighbor hood to see if there's a problem with my remote. This way I will be able to narrow down if it was the whole area or just my house. I have wireless alarm and want to make sure that this is not the problem.

My next door neighbor has a 3series (previous gen) and has the same remote key style as mine I don't think she is having this problem. My roommate's 325 (latest gen with the new remote key style) doesn't have this problem.

Kunos, btw how did you know about this so called problem? Is there any other thread similar to mine? I tried googling but didn't see anything.

I am an Electronics engineer.... and it had happened to me before.

And it was happening on a specific parking spot. Not everywhere at the area.
Initially I was surprised too until I saw the nearby powerfull electricity transformer.
