Remote Control Roof

Forgive my stupidity, but can someone give me some instructions on doing the wiring for the gap tech module? I can get the center console out and all, but I have never done any wiring so its all foreign to me.

Thanks!

It should come with pretty detailed instructions. The wires are joined using scotch lock connectors (snap on) or you could go through the route of soldering/joining. I used scotch lock and it works perfectly so far. I'll try to fish out my instructions page for you

Mine would be slightly different as I have the plus. Do you have some scotch locks that were included in the pack?
You only have 3 wires to join up and all you need is a pair of pliers

You'll need 2 red ones and 1 blue one. They are different sizes which I imagine will make a difference. They are very cheap but normally can only buy in packs of 100

I used chocolate strip connectors on mine as I found the scotchclip connectors supplied had an intermittent connection, no probs since swapping to these

yeah just had a go using scotchlocks no joy whatsoever, going have to try this weekend with the little block

This ^^
I used the supplied connectors but had to redo them a couple of times as the red wire (in the car) is thicker than the wire in the Gaptech module and can be a bit of a pain to crimp together well.
It's a very easy job, bit like paint by numbers for wiring. As long as you're not colour blind it should be pretty straighforward.
Good luck, it's a great mod.

Can ya split a longer choc block into those singles you have or did you buy them somewhere? trying find them myself

i think it's one of the scotch locks on mine not attached right anyway, the unit is still getting power and functioning other than the gaptech not working and that's with the red/black>red thicker wire in the white connector split into a long terminal.

pain in the hole anyway, fairly sure i picked the right wires, the only one i was unsure about was the brown/violet

Yeah, just split the strip into singles or keep them together. Each connector block is a single connector insulated by the plastic casing from each other connector. I found it easier using separate blocks but each to their own I suppose.

naw it'll def be easier to separate them, the pure bulk of keeping a 12way one together for just the thick wire was a ball ache last night when trying to reinstall the thing back in the tray

I'm about to dig into these wires. To be in the know when I get there, are the two heavy red and black wires the power and ground for the lighter?

If not, can you point them out?

Thanks...

marks146, I bought mine last week and the instructions that came with it were different to the ones that TomHitmanHatton posted up. probably the same information but they were more of a diagram making clear reference to each plug and each wire. There was no need to know what was live and what was earth. If you can wait til tonight I can post them up for you.

Sure thing. BTW I'm doing something different than but related to this module. That's why I was asking about hot wire and ground.

you need to use all three connections from the back of the tray unti for the rch+,
red from the module to the red/black/yellow thick wire on the white connector
black from the module to brown on the small black connector

then the rest of the module wires go into wires on the larger black connection

but aye take pictures when you're doing it :D lol be good to compare mine to someone else who has it working before i go back out and swear at it tonight/check connections
...it's sitting in works car park annoying me right now, honestly tempted to go out over lunch

I'd really advocate you solder wires together and then insulate. The biggest single cause of failures of electronic modules is the poor connection they make and over time as the wires are exposed they corrode and further induce issues.

There a re a few really good locks on the market but they have special grease in them to seal and iirc increase connectivity.
