Remote Central Locking/Alarm

Hello,

I've long been a lurker on this forum and I've had various problems over the years with my 2003 z4, however this particular problem isn't going anywhere!

About a year ago, late at night my alarm went off - this had happened before with the classic 'bonnet switch' (which has been unplugged) scenario- so I was used to it, I went outside to deactivate the alarm - it took some 20 mins of fiddling around to get it to shut up - I think I ended up using the key in the door. The alarm siren made a comedic sound like a tape slowing down (think it's dead). The next day I realised that the remote locking no longer functioned at all. and I've been using a key ever since.

This is what I know

-Car battery has been changed this week
-GM5 module relays have been changed to no effect.
-Key batteries reads at a good voltage (cant remember what it is now but it's ok)
-Diversity antenna etc is all plugged in - INPA does read error 'no power to antenna' or similar.

This is what I'd like to know

-Where the hell is the alarm siren/module? I've done some searching and one post says "behind the rear right-hand wheel" - is this the driver's side? do I have to take the wheel off? It's definitely not inside the boot.

I'd really appreciate all the help I can get - I'm trying to fix this car up and move on to a z4m/si after 3 years of otherwise happy motoring (apart from this, and the roof motor going).

Correct me if ever I misunderstood your question.

I think you are looking for the EWS module ?

General Module V mostly holds the Alarm programming.

Yes. Did you try to clear out the faults? Is it still going back, after clearing? Check all the wirings first for all connections, last resort is replacing the GM5

Yes, upon clearing the fault history this fault remains....

Yeah, check the wiring to the siren at the rear wheel, the tilt sensor resides there as well. It's the right side as when you're driving the car, so your driver's side. It's not in the boot, it's accessed from outside. It's either wheel off or put car on lift. Not sure how radio interior protection would play into it, other than it will have a connection to the sensor at the siren.

Thanks for the tip, I actually did find it eventually and removed it,then tried resetting/removing alarm in SSS. No such luck. The harness appears to be okay on visual inspection, as does that of the interior sensor in the gearbox tunnel bit.

Hi all,

Fixed this today after a year of searching the web for solutions though there was little to suggest that this might be the solution.

My fuel cap actuator has been broken since I got the car, so I had forgot it even locked in the first place.

Long story short, it was the actuator that was messing with the circuit, so I has a look in the boot space on the filler side, found the green emergency open tab and cut the wire leading that way. I then re-initialized the key using the standard procedure (hold 'open' button, three taps on roundel). Remote locking now works perfectly.

So I guess if you have a broken fuel filler actuator (doesnt lock with central locking) - and have tried the GM5 relay/new module route - this may be worth a shot.

It's quite well reported but mostly on 3/5 series models.

I have to say that after a long year using the key in the door I am positively elated, it will take a while to get used to it again!

Unfortunately the roof motor's broken! - as is the functonality of the red bowden cable. Can't even open the damn thing.

Going to fix it when I get some time off work, and then look into moving it on and running a z4m for a while.

Update -

Roof motor is fixed - many thanks to Shipkiller for his guide. Managed to clean it out and lubricate, hit it with a mallet for a while, works at least as well as it always used to. Also drilled extra drain holes .

Having some latching problems so not quite there yet.
