Yeah, it is that time to get going on this winter tire. Many procrastinate and then wind up with nada.

Just a friendly reminder.....Tire Rack is your friend.

Cheers,
Greg

Happiness is having a second set of wheels with my winter rubber already mounted and ready to go :yeah:

.... or if you don't want to get winter tires, MOVE SOME PLACE WHERE IT DON'T SNOW!!!!!!!1
One of the worse ice storms I've ever seen was in Atlanta... :poke:

I'll take snow any day over ice.... :driving:

Yeah, I'll take snow over ice, but fortunately, I don't have to choose all that often! :D

There is going to be someone posting here where to get snow tires that they can't seem to locate because they procrastinated and are sold out. Betcha.

Winter doesn't arrive until Winter Solstice Dec 21st ish.....change after that date and you are good to go until the Vernal equinox.

Does it really make a difference on the Z4 to have winter tires? Thankfully, I have a SUV that I drive in the winter. Living in Chicago we get pounded with snow and I made the mistake of driving my Z4 in snow but swore to never do that again. I am getting ready to put the Z4 away for the winter. I will redo the brakes this winter but can not decide between OEM rotors and pads or Axxis pads and EBC slotted rotors.
Any advice would be appreciated.

I don't get the whole "winter air" nonsense, but I do need to buy some tires...

You live on the East Coast don't you. Man...you should know about the benefits of all this. Personally, I now have nitrogen instead of just air, still change it.

Yep, winter nitrogen -- the best! Make sure its loaded properly though.... you put RHS nitrogen on the LHS of the car and you're asking for trouble.

Wow, great memory Phil. I completely forgot about that incident...some guy from the Bay area back in 2004 or so, wasn't it?. Jeez, pays to do a little homework before getting the work done, fo sho.

x2, I never used to be that bothered TBH, but now I consider it to be essential part of my winter preparations.

JetBlackZ - 4 snows on a Z4 makes a world of difference. Go with the Axxis pads. No brake dust. While working on the pads, paint the calipers and also the rotor hat. Use a VHT paint for both.

For newbies with snow tires: Keep the tire pressure up. You want a big footprint being laid down. Less air gives you less footprint. Watch tire pressure as temps swing. Watch how you park - snow tires have thin sidewalls, so don't use the sidewall as a feeler guage when parking.

I understand that pressure changes with temperature, and that as the Temperature decreases, the pressure goes down. However, just adding more air should be all that's need to increase the density and raise the pressure back to what it should be. Changing the air out completely or using a different gas shouldn't make much of a difference. Unless there is something I'm missing...?

Thanks, would you recommend the OEM rotors or would I be okay with a pair of EBC USR932 Ultimax Rotors or Power Slot rotors?
The reason I am contemplating between the two is because the OEM are so darn expensive on Amazon they are $213 each not per side and the EBC are only $125 per side, and I usually replace the rotors and pads when I redo the brakes.
In the past I have bought Brembo rotors thinking they would be really good for my 3 series but they warped really quick and only lasted a very short time.
