That's not surprising - it's a Fast Ford!

They never sold in big numbers as I think they were quite expensive when new which may be why I haven't seen one in ages.

Owner said it still surprises many a fast car even today , he laughed at my zed , said in the twistys zed had no chance , think he may have been surprised !!

I used to have a silver one, 1.7litre, we placed the order the day it went on sale, waited six months to get it due to production issues but what a fantastic car, so much fun in a little package, really nippy and responsive. As Smarbear said the 1.7 litre VCT engine block were shipped to Yamaha in Japan for finishing and then shipped back to Ford for fitting. Also remember the Aluminium gear knob that was very cold in winter :D

It was a great car, loved it and made immortal by the advert starring Steve McQueen, think it won car of the year also.

As stated previously theblue one is the racing version built by Tickford, had a bit more power but was a lot more expensive

Great advert , they don’t make ads like that anymore !!, I tried to get owner to go for a spin but he declined !

We had a silver 1.7 one,the ride comfort made the zed feel like a bentley, full of rust on most panels,it did go ok but not a car i fondley remember.

I remember VBH doing the road test on the racing puma when they first came out 8)

Due to the delay with the Puma, we had a Ford Probe as a loaner for three months, that was quite nice too

It’s the racing puma version , very rare now . Approx 100 or so left apparently!!

I know exactly what that is. I fancied one of these as my daily a few years back, but I just could not find a decent one, all had been ragged to death. Fantastic little cars. Calling it a fiesta in a frock is also fine by me. The fast fiestas have also been cracking little cars, but the Racing Puma had a few lovely little touches that made it even more special. No surprise good one fetch good money now, Worth every penny IMHO. 8) :driving:  I'd take a good one over an M3 every day of the week.

A Mondeo in a frock.

We had that very Mondeo 24v Si at the time

To be honest my Mk1 Primera from that period could run rings around both of them in the corners. But the ford was a better Family car. :D

I wouldn't!

As good as the Racing Puma may be I'd still rather have an S54 in the engine bay.
