Remapping detection???

Hello All

If I get my Z4 rempped the deal will be able to see it, but how likely is this? Will it be flagged up as soon as the car is connected to there computer or would they have to be looking for it?

Many thanks
MIke

Their most recent systems check the software you have installed vs current and historic as well as logs. This is only done if diagnostics equipment is connected for the means of software updates, diagnosis or software reprogramming. So, in answer to you, it depends on what work they do as to whether they see it.

If they do detect it based on the above, then its put on file against that VIN and work may either be declined or warranty for potentially affected components void.

Its a bit of a lottery and up to you if you feel the remap is work the possible risk of failure and further to that warranty issues. From what I've read online, most people don't have it detected. Or they reverse remaps before taking it in for service.

Depends how the remap was done.

If the tuner hasn't blanked out all the tuner detection codes in the DME then the dealer will spot the code instantly. Also if the map was just a generic ROM loaded to your car they will probably see your DME version is out.

The big worry is that they will overwrite the DME back to stock and you will lose the map. That's why you want a tune that will allow you to remove and re-apply the remap using a handheld device.

Hi,

Thats why lots of people use piggy back systems like JB4, or Cobb - so you remove them prior and your car is standard it came out of the factory

Try N54 forums as that is an great source of information

The COBB isn't a piggyback. It's an ECU tune.

Ideally you want to avoid fitting a piggyback. Especially on the N54 platform where there are so many different options for a real tune.

The N54 tuned is an totally amazing car, I had an JB4 on it for 4 years without an issue.

It's power and its delivery was awsume

Sorry me bad COBB is not an piggy back - but the driver has the ability to remove it when needed, and then re-install.

The best way to tune the N54 is via an rolling road - but that is quite an semi permanent installation - whilst the JB4 proclade etc and Cobb can be removed before visiting garage.

To be honest, on my JB4 - i kept it installed on servicing - but turn it to normal map mode.

However the JB4 on the N20 is much easier to see in the engine bay

Interested in remapping mine. Does anyone know if the gains on a 23sdrive are decent enough to warrant the costs?

It's only the turbo engines that really benefit from a remap.

Thanks every one for your comment. I think I will go with a remap instead of a piggy back tuning box. I have found a company that can come to my work and do it, with a proposed output of 381BHP :D

You will be amazed at how much faster the car feels. The midrange is where you notice the big improvement. :driving:

Whenever I go back to stock it feels glacial.
