remapped my car

Had my car remapped today , it seemed to drive more smoothly but dont know if its made it feel quicker as i picked it up during rush hour so couldn't get over 30 mph ill give it a ragging tomorrow on the way to work.

By the way i didn't pay for this i did some work for the garage and well ill scratch your back and you scratch mine..........on first impressions though i dont think i would of payed for it but ill report back tomorrow with a more scientific approach ,right foot hard to the floor. :evil:
 
Interested to hear what you think also. Its something I'm serisouly considering (especially now I have the GruppeM on there)
 
Ok guys gave it a little push this morning , a bit damp so not to hard , well it does seem to pull a little harder and certainly feels smoother , the real test will be when i go on a hoon though but to be ornest you would have trouble noticing the difference , so as many have said before salve your money just glad I didn't pay for it .

As a freelancer, if I do some work for someone in a contra deal, then I consider myself paid, therefore I've paid for whatever they gave me :P
 
Hi jonnyfive, just a matter of interest, what engine is in your zed? And did they say what you should expect gains wise? Cheers .. :driving:
 
I might be wrong but the biggest problem I have with recaps is people's expectations and the way they are sold. All they ever advertise is an increase in BHP which may or may not be achievable, however in my experience be it on 2 wheels rather than 4 that is only half the story. BMW and all manufacturers have to submit there vehicles to EU testing and achieve certain levels, I know for a fact that a large British Motorcycle used to all its final testing and approvals in Spain because they were a little bit more lenient on what they would pass despite the legislation being the same throughout Europe.
I digress the point is BMW tune there cars to a balance between performance, economy and emissions as well as anything else the law makers throw at them. An aftermarket tune does away with that and hyperthetically speaking that hole in the midrange that is created to pass an emissions test is now filled in making the power curve even smoother.
So to get to my point it's not always about an extra 10bhp at the top end it's about improving the midrange and throttle response therefore improving the whole driving experience.

With that mind in mind how does it feel?
 
OK guys not to sure on BHP gains but wasn't to interested in that as i was quiet aware that you can't get much from normal aspirated engines just looking for a better delivery as said it does feel smother and a bit more responsive seems to rev more readily. My car is a 3.0 s 2003
I havnt really had a chance to open her up but when i do i will post my findings.
 
You trying to tell me BMW got it wrong?? If you would like to send me your money,promise to talk you into a better car :(
 
My zed was mapped but I didnt have it on the dyno but i was told 12-15bhp.
To explain it in simple terms after the remap it was like driving with the sports mode on but when the sports mode button was depressed it was pin sharp it almost ran away with you.
Smoother on delivery and the mpg never changed it also wanted 97ron.
Ive had loads of bmw diesels remapped which were fantastic and i was sceptical about getting a non turbo car done but im glad i did and thought it was a good gain for the money especially when i think what ive spent on some of me elise engines to get more power.

Mr black which company did you use and what sort of speed,gear and revs did you notice the biggest differance in. Also did filling her up with 97ron make a big improvment too.

The mapping firm was local to me and i got it done as a group deal at work so it cost me very little :? a one off but to be honest ive had all my other remapping at performance torque he is alot nearer to you Will is awesome.
Revs and gear wise it was cleaner and felt crisper all round and the 97ron felt smoother too some 95 ron could make it pink.
