Excuse my ignorance but what does MHD stand for? :? Thanks.

Just as the title says really, any opinions as to which is preferred choice to make if any?

What engine do you have fitted?

For the N20 engine, either works, balance of opinions and engineering logic suggests that a re map is the better option, Evolve, Celtic are two of the bigger/respected names, there are others...see many threads on this issue..

Remap is best, but I used JB4 in my Z4 and did over 30,000 with ownership with no issues.

I have some replacement downpipes to make give it a few more BHP

I got over 309 BHP

WOW that's an impressive increase in performance I bet. The local garage to me recon about a 50BHP increase over its current 182 BHP but from what you have he should get more?
Do you mind saying where you had it done and how much? Did you also go for a rolling road test before and after?
Good to have your info though.

You should get upwards of 260, depending on the individual car. Mine initially Dyno'd at 174bhp (book figure is 155 - that's all dependant on the car, the day and the dyno tho). It's a LOT more fun now 8)
Car was put on the rolling road before, and hat's where it stayed for the work to be done. Normally they do it in situ, but I'm pretty sure they had to whip the ecu out to do this one on the bench. Rolling roaded again after the map, and refined a bit too. The first run after was actually 265, and they tweaked it a bit. They also added a wee bit to the redline, moving it up to 7k, not that I'll ever try to get right up to that tho
They gave me printouts of before and after.
DEFINITELY go somewhere reputable, I went to https://ecotune-scotland.co.uk/ in Glasgow, because they have a good reputation and their customer service was perfect (and I didn't fancy a 4 hour plus drive south of the border) - do some research first. Don't just pick the first place on a web search, have a chat with them first.
Cost was £499 - not the cheapest, not the most expensive either tho

I might add that now it's got a bit colder, it feels quicker - mine was done in the summer, it was about 26 degrees that day 8)

I would go with a tuner that offer a warranty in case it goes wrong...eg Celtic or others...

Making power with the N20 with its sophisticated turbo is not the issue, cooling the head and stopping it cracking is the problem..on the road, on a track there are other issues but they don’t appear in road use...

OK TT I will go that route, I'm not looking for much more than 250 so that should be achievable without problems. :) I am having an exhaust modification as well so that may help too.

Well a visit to Celtic in Cornwall is an option or Birmingham where Evolve are...Celtic does a come to you van service in your part of the world I think?

Well since I had my 28i for over 3 years - and did over 35K miles stage 2 - plus 10 track days - I had no issues.

However, with the JB4 it only kicks in when the oil Temp is ready - and if its see the engine going beyond its safe marks it will cut the power - what a remap will not do.

The limitation of running an 300+ BhP Z4 - was the intercooler - never found a solution that worked.

The engines are the same, so should reach a similar figure
