Remap 35i

Been away from the forum for a while, but we've been running an ESS map for almost three years, stage 2, with no issues. Low rpm pick up is greatly improved and then there's the extra boost which is always entertaining when you feel like having fun :D

Was that bought direct or from someone in the UK ? I am guessing it is another handheld type device or software and a cable from a laptop.

Hi, purchased direct from ESS in the US and shipped over.

There is a coded USB module that plugs into the diagnostic port which locks to the ECU. You download your current map and other diagnostic data onto your laptop and send it over to ESS, along with details as to the type of fuel you run and any other mods that may have been completed. They then send you back two maps, stage 1 and stage 2, specifically for your car which you load up from your laptop.

I spent quite some time researching which system to go for prior to purchase, as they are expensive compared to other options and don't have the highest power output claims, but the reviews globally from those using ESS on the N54 engine were very positive in terms of performance and drivability. It's very easy to go back to the stock map, plus you can run stage 1 in the winter if you still want the drivability but not the 390DIN peak power.

At the time back in 2012 there were also other UK members on the forum who were running the ESS maps with positive feedback.

We've had no issues at all over what is almost now 3 years of running with the ESS maps.

Thanks for the info. I had forgotten they existed - I remember reading a lot about them and Cobb re the N54 on the *mainly* US Z4 site.

I had my 135i done at AP Automotive in Telford. 350hp.

Then I had them swap out downpipes and supply and fit I/C final result 385hp & 560nm.

Could you use the power in 1st and 2nd that easily ?

It did get of the line quick, no massive dramas with traction, but I hardly launched it to be honest

Without the LSD on the 135i it was a complete animal to control. Very cautious in the wet, but in the dry it was a beast!

So has anyone here tried the N54 MHD Flasher.
I can now answer my own question. Me :driving:

For about £80 its a no brainer. Car much more eager now :)

How is it to do??? I had a read up on it but I don't have a clue how to do it.. Thanks

You use an android devive ie your phone. You will also need an ODBII to usb cable plus, if your using your phone and phone post to usb cable.

Once you have these items plug into your ODBII port and start the app. Buy the app and buy the map you want.
