Is this via Chris knott? That's an excellent price, what was the excess?

Nope Chris Knott won't quote someone my age on a Z. Its with Admiral, £400 excess.

That's all well and good, but how about you actually provide competitive quotes?

I'm over 30, no accidents and convictions (no points), full 15 years no claims, car is parked in brick, alarmed garage, it's not modified, it's not my first rear-wheel drive, and my post code is one of the best in the UK.
According to your own adviser, I'm the "perfect" person to insure.
Yet you are, by far, the most expensive insurer for me out there - by a long way.

I'm not expecting any sort of response tho, as it's the same thing every year with you guys...

Maybe it's the location then... always hard to say with insurers. I know a lot of people who have had excellent quotes from Admiral, Bell etc.. and some where the price is eye watering, sometimes it's hard to tell, insurance is not a one hat fits all thing. All I will say is it's worth (to most members) the few minutes it takes to give them a call. It didn't work out for you, and to be honest if they have the same underwriter next year it probably won't work out for you then either, but in some cases there are some significant savings to be had.

Chris Knott are a good fit for our vehicles most of the time, so I imagine there is some other factor influencing your quote. Being that Chris Knott are a broker and not the underwriter I am not sure if even they could give you the definitive answer to why it's high, but my gut feeling is it's not your car.

Don't take it personally though

sk93, if you PM me your name and postcode I'll take a look at your most recent quote to see if I can give you an answer as to why we've quoted what we have.

I don't take it personally, but I know for a fact my postcode isn't (or shouldn't) be the problem, as it shows as below medium risk.
Certainly in the A-F scale, I'm B or C depending on which source you look at.

<rant>
TBH - Insurance makes me sick to the stomach. It's just a joke.
Look how much young people have to pay out to drive nowadays.. most pay over £2k for a poxy 1l Corsa.
Yeah there are idiot drivers that cause thousands of pounds worth of damage.. but why do I have to pay for that?
I've never had a single accident, and never ever claimed on insurance for anything.. yet I still get offered stupendous quotations.
The whole industry is a joke and quite frankly, I'm on the verge of saying it needs to government run like car tax or the MOT test....

And don't even get me started on the "shared fault / 50-50" bullshit...

Done.

I'm not sure what went on before without listening to the call but based on the details we have on screen for you, if we were looking at this today our rate would be £359.50 including comprehensive Breakdown Cover. I appreciate that's higher than your best quote but it's not too far off.

What can I say, the market fluctuates. If you went with £308 all in you got a better deal anyway (which is good).

Interesting about the breakdown cover included though, what does that cover? (national/europe, home start, onward travel etc?).

Chris Knott UK Breakdown Cover provides HomeStart, Roadside Assistance, Recovery, Onward Travel, Overnight Stay, 24hr (get you home) Hire Car, Relief Driver and Message Relay. The policy also includes assistance for scenarios that are normally excluded. These FREE extras are Running Out of Fuel, Flat Batteries, Lost/Broken Keys and Accidental Tyre Damage.

Cover is £59.50 but we're offering a winter discount soon, giving £5 OFF. Watch the forum for details coming in the next couple of weeks.

So, mine's up for renewal...

What's the likelihood of CK being able to quote for a...
- 43 year old male
- 3 points
- 1 non-fault accident
- 10+ years protected NCB

...on a...
- 2006 Z4MC with modified suspension, brakes, exhaust, intake (suspension & brakes not yet fitted, as it will depend on how good/bad the premiums are)

...for...
- Fully comprehensive European cover (including fully comp at the 'Ring)
- 25,000 SDPC & Business Class 1
- Parked on road/drive in Liverpool L25 postcode

...and just for a target premium, if you can get it below £1000, then I'm all your's

All sounds fine except the cover at the Nurburgring. I'd also need to check the parking requirements at L25. What's the next bit of the postcode L25 *?

0PT (i.e. Hunts Cross, NOT Halewood).

Although the car is parked at the (current) office at TW8 9GS or TW8 0QU more often than it's at L25 (4:3 ratio).

The 'Ring cover is the bit I'm finding difficult, as in the past it was a grey area where it wasn't specifically excluded in the policy documents / Ts&Cs. However most exclude it specifically now, and the £150/day 1st party only cover is getting expensive (2 x 3 day trips a year = £900 extra even if the 'Ring ends up being closed for the day and I don't get any laps), and doesn't cover anything other than my car, which might be the minor cost in a multi-car accident if I'm found at fault.

I'm afraid that postcode is one of the ones where we need the car to be garaged overnight. Sorry about that. We're constantly badgering underwriters to give us the tools we need and more flexibility so this may mean we can quote in the future. In any case we couldn't help with the 'ring cover.

No problem, and I understand.

It's still cheaper to pay more for my insurance than it is to move or build a wider garage.
