Rather that than £1.43 a litre, but you do have a point.
Currently £1.14.9 in Greenwich.
 
It's only dropped 10% :)

The "experts" are now saying that the low oil prices will have an effect on the world economy - they said high prices would effect it five minutes ago!

I was only thinking what was the peak price,and im sure it was £1.40+ for normal unleaded.... Was it £1.43 ?
 
I'm old enough like a few of us when it was 5bob (25p) a gallon :D There were queues at the pumps at budget time when the chancellor put it up six pence (2.5p)
 
A 30p drop from their peak isn't bad. and forecast to fall even further. Doubt it will go below £1 as around 60/70p of it goes to the treasury, with the remainder going to the oil companies.
 
I hate to say but I think if the price falls, old George might take the opportunity to raise the tax - although an election might colour his judgement !
 
Fuel was £1.20ish a gallon when i started driving..

I do remember it being 50p a gallon though when my dad used to fuel up his V4 Corsair for the week..
 
I passed a Shell garage today in Coatbridge and it was £1.15.
At least 20p cheaper than it was in the summer which in a 50 litre tank is a saving of at least £10. :thumbsup:
 
So tell me, what would the price have to get to, to be prohibitively expensive? And to make you stop driving a big engined car. £2 a litre?
 
We're still getting mugged. Oil fell to below $70 a barrel this week and it's still £1.15 odd a litre for petrol compared to £1.40 when oil was $130 a barrel.

Here's why....

So which part varies as I am seeing about 5-10p differences between the varies shell stations around here.

Personally i dont do a lot of miles and fuel prices never got in the way of any kind of ownership for me because of that.... But the M5 pretty much being in single figures all the time was hard to bare...
Doubling fuel use from Z4M,911C4S and Jaguar Xk.....

Would buy something more economy minded and go back to bikes for the odd thrill
 
I think the long term trend for petrol price could be downwards. As demand for electric cars increases exponentially (as it will) so demand for petrol will drop sharply.

All depends on wage rises etc. If fuel goes up by the cost of inflation every year and you get a rise of inflation +*% then you'd still pay it, especially if you needed it to commute to work

I think the most I ever paid was £1.35 a litre and I managed to live ok. Yes I was angry, but it was either pay that or have to spend 4 hours a day commuting via public transport with smelly unwashed people.

Cnsidering my work commute is 10 miles/15 minutes, I think it's safe to say travelling by car is the best option.

That would work if there was an infinite supply of oil. Unfortunately that's not the case, so I can only see it going the other way, even with the introduction of electric vehicles.
