Register new battery with Foxwell NT530

Hi Folks,

As a side effect of water ingress in the boot which lead to an epic thread and great help from everyone on this forum, I am now trying to register a new battery. Exactly the same make/model as the old battery (70ah AGM) but whichever option I take it fails with the message below.

I have tried this with the ignition on and also tried it with engine running and no joy.

Tried scanning (on phone) previous threads but haven’t spotted a solution.

Would anyone have any suggestions?

Cheers
W

I had a similar issue on that specific item…never resolved it and used Protool to register it… :tumbleweed:

Oh dear, more things to worry about in terms of the Foxwell - I thought you said that product was good.... :poke: :D

I'm regretting my decision even more! :?

have you tried their customer support? Not that I am particularly hopeful that they will help quickly. I'm still waiting for my new NT530 to arrive (its now over a week), and I am seriously tempted to send it straight back if it can't even do this!

I did try a few coding options using Carly and they failed, this was with the engine running, I tried with the engine off and key in, still wouldn’t do it then tried with the key in and one press on the start button and then it worked.

So…. It could be worth trying that next time when attempting coding with the Foxwell, not sure if that had anything to do with it but worth a try.

I then went to do the battery registration and no problem.

Quite so..I DID say that IMHO dedicated tools were better than general purpose readers..hence why I have Foxwell for the Volvo/Jeep/and a bit of Mini/BMW but Protool for the hardcore diagnostics AND coding..

glad i bought the Autophix 5900, if the Foxwell can't do something as simple as register the battery can't see it being much use when more complex issues arrive, its not the first time I've seen this mentioned on the forum for the Foxwell product

What happens if you don't register a new battery in an E89?

It won't charge as efficiently in use and probably lead to a prematurely fried battery, will still work though day to day

We have made a long term test without registration over 1 year without any recognizable issue. I don't expect neither a risk for the battery nor any noticeable disadvantage.

I fit a new battery to my E89 over 5 years ago. Never got it registered as I'd never heard of that at the time and I've never (touch wood!) had an issue.

lead to a prematurely fried battery,

Have you actually heard of this happening?

Nope, just from forum chat, probably should have said could possibly lead to..I believe the theory bandied about is if its not charging correctly and efficiently then its likely to not have its maximum possible useful life
