Regarding PM (private messages) on sales threads

The rule:
:police: All discussions including offers, acceptances and refusals should be shown clearly in the thread not by email or PM. Once a deal is agreed you may use whatever form of external communication you like to finalise payment details etc. We insist on this rule because we need to see all the negotiations to be able to mediate a solution to a dispute :police:

It is impossible for moderators to police every Sales thread, so if this rule is ignored and disputes follow moderators will not be stepping in to sort things out.

Any sales posts that are reported will of course be investigated and any cases the moderators come across will be acted upon.

We apply the rules fairly when we see they have been broken, but we can't catch every breach so please don't take it personally if you experience discrepancies.

Thanks

Couple of Suggestions

1. maybe amend ‘the rules’ to say every seller must write ‘I’ve read the forum rules on selling & agreeing prices’ in their add. Where they don’t, the forum Rozzers (official & unofficial) can bump the thread to remind them

2. Have a pop up before they commit any FS add to say something like ‘By posting this FS add, you agree the final price & who is the buyer are only agreed on this thread alone & not in any other medium’

Either way or maybe another, it then makes at least 1 party (the seller) responsible to abide by the guidelines & avoid misunderstandings

Thanks for the suggestions Jembo.
The problem I see with number one is that those who don't read the rules or don't follow them will not follow this rule either, which leaves us with the same problem of policing.
There may be technical difficulties with your second idea of 'pop ups', however I will let Sp3ctre assess that one.
Cheers
