Well i will go give it a test drive and see if i think as a trader they are dodgy, they didnt sound like they were to me. But i will see.

And i guess you are all right in the sense that you shouldnt let excitement get a step ahead of you!

I hope it works out fine for you. Traders CAN be a good deal, since they have low overheads and are often happy to take a much lower profit than a main dealer or private punter, but at the same time, their relatively anonymous status means that thay can get away with stuff a dealer can't - I spent a lot of my early years working in and around the motor trade and I could tell you stories that wold make your hair curl.

The fact they seem very nice means nothing.......unless you have personal recommendations the reality is you don't really know who they are. A quick check with Trading Standards (although I'm not sure they're called that these days) to see if they have any kind of track record would be a good idea, and for heavens sake, in these circumstances, at last get the car HPI'd - it doesn't cost much an can be done quickly online, or get the dealer to do it and show you the report - if he baulks, walk. Or ask if you can contact the former keeper (the cars not going anywhere in a hurry this time of year....)

I go back to what was said earlier; even as a trader, he has legal obligations as regards warranty that he HAS to meet (and he will know that), so his assertion that there won't be any would be putting me off immediately, in which case its all down to the condition and reliability of the car - if it runs fine for the first six months then you're OK, if it doesn't, then you're into a bunfight....

Good luck with whatever you do though its worth the wait! :)

Its not that im weary of the seller, its more the fact ive never spent this money on a car, and just want to make sure its a sound fun investment rather then a nightmare...

he has however written to me and said this:

"All the service is upto date. Has just been serviced the oil is like new..the plate is with the car..you will have no worries with the car at all it is a very nice example..the warranties that you get with used cars are almost useless as when you read the small print will realize that it has too many hidden catches I.e you pay the first £400 etc use their garage of choice blah blah so we don't bother with them..we are a small family run business working from home and all cars are very throughly checked by myself before sale..."

The trader seems to be selling quite a few cars, mainly your classic japanese sports cars, skylines, supras etc... this seems to be the only BMW.

Any thoughts?

what does he mean "we don't bother"?? he has to comply with law! you get 6 months... any issues then he has to fix it, give you another car or, if a minor issue, reduce the price. end of story. personally i wouldn't bother... there's plenty of good zeds waiting for a good new home and owner! the fact that you've taken the time to join this form to question it and get advise goes to show that your not 100% sure and if you're not 100% then look else were.

Hi Peeps,

Thank you all for the advice! Its great to know theres lots of help out there!

I will go along and test it, as i havent driven one yet (you never know i might hate them...hopefully not).

Then I will start looking at others.
