So decided to make the most of a week off and sort the paint out on my newly acquired Z4.

Process was as follows :

Prep

- Snowfoam
- Citrus degreaser
- Wash (3 bucket method - Wash / rinse / wheels)
- Fallout remover applied
- De-tarred
- Clayed
- Dried

Correction

- All shuts and plastic taped up
- Quick panel wipe down using some quick detailer
- Meguiars microfibre compound pads / compound to remove as many swirls and RDS as possible

(this was a nightmare, as the paint is rock hard - i'd say 60 - 70% correction was achieved)

- Lake country tangerine pad / Meguiars 205 refining polish to remove the marring inflicted by the previous process.
- Panels wiped down with diluted IPA
- Opti-Coat 2.0 applied to all panels

This was done over 6 days - as due to the temperatures I only had an hour in the morning and 2 - 3 in the evening to attack the paint.

Did the rear end of mine today with the Meguiars MF kit. At first I didn't think it had done much, but after washing the rest of the car I can see it has improved it to about the same level as you report 60-70%. I will give finish off the rest of the car when I have time and then have another go later on, but it is much improved now.

Cheers for all the feedback - really appreciate it :)

Glad you saw a similar improvement - definitely lessens the orange peel to an extent and thus increases the crispness of the finish.

I think the only way to improve the finish more than say that 70% will be with a rotary / flex DA -I don't think even slow passes with a DA will help.

How have you found the marring left behind? I found the MF compounding pads left quite a few defects of their own that had to be removed.

And remember - photos :D

That is truely beautiful

Can't beat a clean black car, shame they are so hard to keep that way
