I could really do with some basic tuition just to check I'm doing it right.

Looks great... I may have to take you up on the offer as i have marring on my passenger door which bugs the hell out of me!

The engine bay was wiped down with VP citrus degreaser, all metal sections finished with Meguiars Last Touch, plastics finished with Aerospace 303 and rubbers with Gummi Pflege.

Some great correction there - even better than mine! A lot more depth to the paintwork.

Regarding technique here's Meguairs video demonstrating technique - really useful :

The basics for the MF are slightly different to standard foam pads but :

- Ensure paint is thoroughly cleaned and decontaminated
- Ensure the pad is fully primed (so completely pink from the polish)
- 3 to 4 dots after this for each pass should be enough (may need repriming on occasion so keep an eye out for white spots appearing on pad)
- Always ensure the pad's spurred regularly - I did this after every pass. Don't buy an expensive spurring brush, a cheap toothbrush is fine. Set the DA at speed one with the brush in contact with the pad - this will fluff up all the fibres.
- After you've quickly spread the polish at speed 1, ramp straight up to speed 4 / 5 - slow passes, first up and down then side to side - I did it 4 times in total.
- Maintain a slow pace, don't be tempted to rush, and maintain a nice even pressure, don't apply too much but also don't just leave the weight of the machine doing the work.
- Keep the work area small - says 18*18" but I managed a 24*24" working area without too much bother.
- Turn the machine off with it still in contact with the paintwork
- Remember to use panel wipe / eraser / diluted IPA (50% water / 50% IPA)

*DIsclaimer - this is just my experience with it, and it worked - i'm not a pro detailer, just a mere hobbyist and so these are just very general / basic points*
 
So from the above I should have spurred my pad. I changed to a new one half way through as I did wonder if it was clogged.

What speed did you use, I went with 5 on my PC.

3 dots per pass seems excessive. I only added 3 dots when I changed to the next panel.

Not entirely happy with Opti-Coats water behaviour - currently wearing RG55 wax and Meguiars 'Last Touch'. Will order some Optimum instant detailer as this seems to be the recommended pairing.

DLUX has arrived, so plan on coating all exterior rubber strips / plastic - along with the wheels (which are wearing a temporary coat of HydrO2)
