Redundancy

Sorry to hear it, best of luck for the future.

Is there any way we can assist? It's often said how broad the experience base and geography of this forum is.

Damn  - hope you're able to find something quick.

Let us know how you get on and all the very best - stay positive - there are quite a few members that have mentioned how things have changed for the better in their lives during a similar situation - hope that's the case in yours.

Called into the office today to discuss my redundancy pay :(
Because I've been on short time for 4 months it really does take quite a hit in my redundancy payout!!!
Anyway not all bad news with my redundancy and some savings I have got I can carry on paying myself the same wage that I was on (short time) for probably about 12months
So if anyone's looking for a hard-working 50 year old in the Worcestershire area let me know

Good luck Si, sounds like a pretty naff few months you've had.

I worked professionally as a graphic designer for a few years (still do freelance and I worked for a print company when I moved back to this country, definitely true that those who aren't moving with the times are falling behind. We initially went through the same thing, cut to 4 day weeks, wage cuts etc while we tried to expand into new areas. A few months later and thankfully we'd managed to expand into online commercial printing (selling posters/merchandise etc on ebay/amazon) which brought in an amazing amount of money, there just isn't the same money there for regular litho-printing thanks to competition from large scale companies like VistaPrint and advances in technology rendering skilled, high quality presses less worthwhile.

From speaking to a couple of our litho guys who moved on, litho printers who've worked on big expensive presses are looked on favourably in the engineering sector in general due to the intricate skills, care and balance required in the work. One of them moved on to re-train offshore as a wind farm engineer and the other works in some form of engineering too, so maybe something to consider.

Thanks ste for the advice I've got 3 months before I'm officially made redundant at the end of July so hopefully something will turn up
Just hope my age isn't against me I'm 50 and the fact that I'm dyslexic

Hi Si
Quick update the team I work in was taken into the office at the end of February and told one of us would be made redundant by the end of march. When I thought about it on the drive home I decided it was the right move for me, I phoned all my work mates and told them I was putting myself up for the chop so they didn’t need to worry only to find two others did the same thing!
Fortunately, on the interview to keep my job my reasoning for the trust to let me go was seen as sound and I got to leave at the end of April! I like you am late 40’S I decided to test the waters on the job front to see if I am still employable and mate I was shocked there was bugger loads out there to the point I have removed myself from the job market to do some training on technology’s I want to work on. Mate there is a big world out there my only advice to you would be to sort your CV out and a good cover letter you have a skill set that’s useful, stride mate don’t shuffle your worth more than you can imagine.
Take care Dude
