Been there a few times during my career - and things always worked out!

Keep a positive attitude and make the most of any free time before the next stage of the game.

I hope you enjoyed the afternoon on the hoy!

Well as expected 4 jobs up for grabs Cant tell us as yet where it will be based But could end up going from a 15minute commute to about an hour as will be travelling during peak rush hour times across forth road bridge. If we are unsuccessfull then Bye bye, So will be having consultation meets over next week or so then a decision from there I guess. at the moment my mind is to take the money and go. But that will be a discussion with SWMBO over a bottle of Red tonight.
the Boss took us to the pub for the afternoon for a meal and drinks ( he is in same situation as the rest) and stuck the bill on the business AMEX

Steve,

Hope it works out, whatever you decide do what's right for you and yours

Sorry to hear your news, i hope you get a nice big cheque and walk in to something else very soon. With some luck you could end up sitting with some decent cash in the bank, a new job and shopping for a new Z4.

Some people at my work got paid off, all of them walked in to new jobs and had got a nice big redundancy paycheck.

Sorry to hear this. Keep your options open and see what the new positions are like. A run over the bridge and back is a pain but might be ok short term while you look for something else.

Good luck!

Feeling the love guys
:ilz4f:
And thx for the good wishes

TBH Mike, it's not that the drive would bother me TBH, More time to play in the Z
I am a bit fed up with the Job I am doing, and from what could be gathered from the meet today the new posts are going to be pretty much the same, as I am existingly unhappy with it, Do I really want to continue doing it. I had already been thinking about making a move before all this redundancy crap kicked off. So my reasons for wanting to take the money and run are
1. I make the move and realise it was a mistake and loose the opp to gain £££££. (NEW RIMS AND MORE MODS,as a small incentive to get another job quickly) :)
2. I am fed up and there is little or no scope to make more ££ over the next say 2 years if I continue in this role.
3. I am not a fan of my employer
4. I need a kick up the A** to look to try and improve my annual income.

But there are also Obvious reasons to stay as well such as having a job. etc.

Decisions decisions

Same story here Nosa. Been made redundant twice to date and each time its been a mix of emotions. elation, fear, worry, elation again then mild panic. Each time though it has been the very best thing for my career and taken me to places I'd not thought possible (no, not Lewisham).

Best of luck mate and hope it all works out for you. Am sure it will and fingers are crossed for the best situation

More and more people will lose their jobs in the next 5 years (250,000 jobs per year from public and private sectors) due to the spending cut. No jobs are safe nowadays. If you can have another position within the same company, you better stay. No jobs, then no house and Zed. :(

I was made redundant in 2002 (I could have moved to head office in Leed but refused). But I had unemployment insurance for my mortgage. I had few temporary jobs for about 6 months, and then got my current job. Best of luck anyway.

wow - so many people with multiple redundancies :o

Thought it was just me :P

as others have said it can sometimes work out for the better, and if you are already fed up with your current job, it may well be the push you need.

Good luck with whatever you decide

Mate, would it not be possible to try for one of the posts available, and if you get it, THEN look for something better, or that you`d rather do ?

Nosa,

I had a similar thing happen to me last January (just as I split up from my wife !!!) but I got one of the jobs available. It was different for me though because I really enjoy my job. Sometimes when the safety net is there you don't jump (better the devil and all that...) but it's a tough decision to make.

Only you will know but whatever you decide all the best mate.

Good luck with whatever you decide, only you and SWMBO can make the decision.

I tried for voluntary 2 years ago and was turned down (been through one compulsory about 9 years ago, I was sort of looking to leave that job but it still comes as a kick in the nuts when you are told you are going), however the look on the GM's face at the same meeting when I told him he would have my resignation by the end of the day was priceless.

Only problem is where we live job's are pretty thin on the ground hence why I now work overseas.

Something will come up, but one thing I have been told in the past and don't know how relevant it is today is that it is easier to find work if you are in work.

Like I said at the start good luck in whatever you decide to do.

Hope it all works out for u Nosa.
as others have said tho,i would take the other job offer if it comes up,and look for something else in the future.

I work for a local authority(5 yrs and counting),after many yrs in the private sector, and we have had 3 redundancies in the last 14 months, with another 1 still to come this yr,and 1 next April,so i am just hoping to keep surviving them. Especially as Connaught just went belly up,who do alot of work for local authorities in Glasgow, etc, and that will put several hundred more tradesmen on the dole, potentially!!

Well 1 hour to go before we are taken into a meeting to be told we are being made redundant, Rumour suggests some of us will be asked to apply for 4 posts that are going to be created. Kind of torn on this as to wether or not to apply for one of them if asked to do so or take the money and run, and hopefully find another job inside a reasonable amount of time. SWMBO has obviously asked me to apply but my heart really wouldn't be in it. I have worked here for almost 9 years and TBH I am very fed up here, Obviously I am thinking about things like mortgage, continuity of service Pension plan etc etc, My head is saying apply but my heart is saying run and take the opportunity to restart elswhere.
Strange thing is we knew this was coming and everyone is a bit down today but I am actually very upbeat today.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune, it must be a sad day for many. Then you seam to look at it from a different point of view.

I can only pass on what Albert once said ..... In The Middle Of Difficulty Lies Opportunity (Albert Einstein)

Good luck to you ... all the best!

Went into the office briefly this morning and was quizzing the boss on more info for the new posts, He had coincidently been talking to the person who would be my new boss if i was succesful in application, Seems she is keen to get us ASAP as the team that has been set up is Very new and the 3 existing team members are a bit New to certain aspects of it and the Business are on her back to get it moving, quickly, From what i can gather I would not have to move sites but would be expected to dual site at any point (this I can handle :driving: ) It would also seem that she will be looking for people to take a lead on certain projects and as it is a new team in development there will be opportunities for upward movement within a decent time period, Wage and benefits as are will map straight over :|

Although the thought of not gaining £££££ if I walk slighty gnaws at me, I have to think of (In order of importance) family, Mortgage, Bills, Cats, Zed, Big Family holiday across the pond next year, Goldfish, AOAS (All other assorted Sh*t,, for Taz x's benifit :poke: )

As previously mentioned in the thread, The whole state of fear and anticipation that we are in at the moment waiting on the cuts to start and Tax rises looming, The current job market etc etc

I would seriously need a slap not to apply for it wouldn't I,, :?

Apply, experience, evaluate. If you don't like it you can still look for something else. Applying for a job whilst being employed is always easier than when unemployed. It's nice to have options - use them
