"Reduction in price to move hood motor into boot"

Great result
I'm booked in next week, don't think mine is drowned - its a preventative measure, but who knows. Very interested in watching Dave doing his thing and finding out the actual condition of the motor and its housing.

If you look carefully down the side of the roof with roof down you can see if its puddling in there. Its how I spotted mine was blocked again after only 9 months, fortunately mine was on the non motor side.

Mine was preventative as it was still working, but it was lucky that I got it done as it was sitting in several inches of water. Well worth doing though as the design is really bad and it's a very expensive replacement.

It does seem nuts, I wonder why they went with that location. It cant really be noise as most folks don't think its any noisier in the new location. All I can think is it was to maximize boot space etc. That or maximize BMW profits on replacements!

I've added some acoustic carpet and memory foam around mine, plus Dave's panel, and its a lot quieter that when it was in its original location

Perhaps we could invite Dave down to Z fest for the day, I'm sure he could get half a dozen done in that time :) Put me down ....

Got myself booked in with Dave to relocate my roof motor that just packed in the other week.......booked in for a couple of weeks time.

Its a good 2+ hours drive, but as its a job I didn't fancy tackling myself, and it looks like Dave has clearly got this method sussed, its a no brainer for me - good excuse for another drive out to be fair.

Hes hoping he can get the existing motor working again as well, so fingers crossed on that so I don't have to buy a replacement motor.

Dave

Fingers crossed for you .... He said mine was the worst he has ever seen and thought it would never work again... But with his voodoo magic he got it working again ... He is a great guy and if it can be saved then I am sure he will

I drove 3.5 hours each way and it was well worth it! :(

I'm back from Durham where Dave and his son did an excellent job relocating my roof motor into the boot. Dave’s done this many times before and it showed - the motor was out, checked and cleaned in no time.

He said it was in a better condition than most he'd worked on, but there was still some water in the bottom of the plastic covers and the foam was wet and discoloured with rust, and even though the drain holes were clear there was still a lot of gunk in the housing wells.

The motor was wire brushed and lubricated (fluid level was fine and didn’t need toping up) and then relocated and cable tied into place.

Finally cherrym’s neat cover was fitted and the roof tested.

I found the motor considerably quieter than before - beforehand it had a higher pitched straining noise, and the roof seems to open and close a little faster. Definitely £80 well spent :)

While the work was carried out cherrym popped over to say hi and invited me for a quick hoon over the tops on what he called his mini evo triangle. He was in his other car: a white Golf R, and I had quite a blast following the quad exhaust 300bhp beast over the tops. We swung back down into Middleton-in-Teesdale, found a café, and had a natter over a fry up and a cuppa.

All in all a very successful day, and a nice bonus meeting cherrym

Haven't even collected my 'new' Z yet and after following and being inspired by all of your positive experiences have made contact with dave to get the roof motor relocated!
He's currently on holiday but has kindly advised that he will try to squeeze me in next week.
Looking forward to a pleasant trek through the lake district from Liverpool to gain some piece-of-mind with this bit of preventive maintenance.
Also looking forwards to becoming an active, z-owning member of this brilliant forum!
:D

Picking up this lovely. 3.0L se next tuesday...
