"Reduction in price to move hood motor into boot"

I've been contemplating this for ages - having read the whole thread I think I should bite the bullet and get it gone.

I bought my Z in July 2014 with the hood working perfectly but two months later it packed in.At that time David had not heard of putting the motor in the boot so he duly took the hood off and replaced the motor the long way and obviously more expensive for labour.
In January 2016 I had read the articles about putting the motor into the boot and asked him to use my car to try it himself.
This he duly did and has become very good at it.No more worries for me and the North East gang along with a lot more who have been since.
Drain holes are now easily cleaned with the hood partly lowered for access.
I am impressed by members who can also do this job themselves but for the rest of us, Bowser,No5 and Dave appear to be doing a great sevice for everybody.

Anyone recommend a good source for a refurbed motor, there seem to be quite a lot of offerings on fleabay? Or is it advisable to go new?

Must admit your name came up a few times in conversation yesterday  There were a few photos taken of #108 and were due to be sent to you - Dave's son seemed pretty impressed and wanted to have a drag race for "pink slips"

Just heard about how fantastic they thought your car was so I am dissapointed we did not meet up.Dont think I will try to race that youngster as he has apparently done some impressive runs at the drag strips with his little VRS Fabia.
Pleased you found them to be sound guys.

There's a chance I may be up your way again in September - will let you know so you can show me one of the runs out there!

Just back from getting mine done by Dave. Turned out that it was just in time as the drains were blocked and the motor housing had several inches of water sitting in it!

Very nice fella and a very good, tidy job.

Good to hear, and as you say just in time! I will be contacting Dave and seeing when he can fit me in

EDIT: Now booked in for next Thursday :)

Perhaps you could clarify if Dave does actually take the roof right out, or if he manages to wriggle the motor out with the roof in place ? ( Perhaps he's a retired Gynecologist ???)

He doesn't take the roof out - he slides into the boot and does most of the work left handed and he's quite a small fellow. In fact, when he's relocated the motor he operates the roof as a check before he puts everything into place, then again after securing it before putting back the trim.

He removes the clips, the "parcel shelf" part, and the strut top covers - i.e. all the plastic bits. He then uses some tools and climbs halfway through the boot to pull the motor housing up through the gap. The roof stays in place, although partially open.

Will do, I think I've read that he doesn't take the roof off.

EDIT: I see that DLH has already responded :)

That's pretty much what I suspected. Its getting the roof back in that is most time consuming and therefore racks up the labour.
Fair Play to him. I looked at trying to do it with the roof half out on one side, but didn't want to risk bending the frame.

Just to clarify things, the roof is not disconnected at any time and all the work is done from inside the boot so no risk to the frame.
As stated Dave is the perfect size for working in a tight space and doesn't need to see a chiropractor when he is finished.

:D Can you let Dave know that the carpet piece is now a match (it was different from the standard black BMW carpet shade he has) - light dab of black boot polish and some protector spray, looks OEM now

Well had a trip to see Dave this morning to see if he could sort out my roof , I turned up introduced himself and was like a rat up a drainpipe... Straight in the boot and stripping it apart while his son removed the drain plugs from under the car.... Then the bad news , looks like an idiot has been working on this before it's a mess, sitting in 6 inch of water and the hydraulic hoses kinked.. It not looking hopefull :( So drys it off and try's power to it still nothing.. This is the worst one he has seen and he has done quite a few now.. So strips it all down cleans everything up and the contacts then puts all the motor back together.. Ok connect to power ooooohhh it has a little life in it, gets it on the car tops up the hydraulic oil and BOOOOOM it's alive :D :D :D :D :D :D :D .. Tried it a few times and works a charm, secured the motor in the boot and had a pre made panel to hide it... What can I say if you are having trouble or thinking about doing this , don't think any more ... JUST DO IT :D
