"Reduction in price to move hood motor into boot"

Someone PM'd me asking for photos so I have uploaded this album.

I show you the cubby hole on the right of the vehicle. Also you can see the one on the left is now covered with a patch of grey felt.

You can also see my new tyre pump. The night before I went to test ciggy lighter and it wasn't working. So I had to take a portable charger with me for the drive to re-charge the phone (sat nav). It also meant if I got a flat my 12v electric pump wouldn't work. So I invested in a "Joe Blow". £26 from halfords. I've been told foot pumps are crap and break easily. This thing can handle up to 160 psi. Yes it requires a bit of vigorous exercise but that's not going to do me any harm.

Anyway hope you can see how good the "finish" is. It's only noticeable if you really inspect it. You could probably touch it up a bit yourself but for £80 I don't think anyone can complain.
 
I think I may as well give this job to day and make a day out it while I'm up there.
254 mile round trip for me so less than a tank of juice.
Will be giving him a call to make some arrangements very very soon :thumbsup:
 
going give it a go myself next time i'm off since i can't pay someone £80 to do it for me lol

If you need anymore examples to highlight the benefits of having your roof motor moved to the boot, just read of the experience I had today. I took a nice morning drive across from my caravan in the lakes to Durham, to meet David, who was going to relocate my roof motor into the boot, for the ridiculously cheap price of £80 I had not been experiencing any problems with my roof motor, and my drains had been working fine, I make sure I check them when it rains or the car has been washed. I just thought it was to good and offer to miss and prevention is better than cure.

I literally arrived at 9.15 and within minutes David and his son were at work exposing the motor through the boot. You can imagine my surprise then to see that my motor was partially submerged in water and already staring to corrode. As David said "Just in the nick of time". David was able to cover the motor in diesel to prevent and further corrosion and topped up the motor fluid, all included in the price.

It is a no brainer, I probably saved about £600 plus today, this is an offer that is to good to miss.

I paid £200 and I was and am still happy with that! Nothing like worry free motoring.
 
I couldn't believe how quickly David and his son were able to tackle the job, we have all heard the horror story of having to remove the roof and how much that costs in labour if you speak to the Stealers. All done via the boot and in super quick time, well worth the price, pity BMW couldn't have thought of it themselves

BMW will only follow what the BMW manual says. Which is fit a new motor in the same location when it fails.

I had to argue with a BMW technician last week that my transmission and diff fluid needs changing and I want them done (I provided the fluids too) and he was stating they are lifelong fluids that never need replacing.

I sent the branch manager copies of technical information from the manufacturer of their transmissions that said fluids should be changed every 8 years or 120,000 km whichever happens first. I know on this forum it's recommended to do them once every 3 years or 40,000 miles.
 
Can not recommend him enough. We travelled up from Nottingham. If you mention when you are going up you may even be able to get the lads up there out to take you on a run round the area. If you do you are in for a treat
 
Hi all, i've just joined the forums. My wife has a 2006 Z4 2.0i.
She has owned it for about 8 months. Unfortunately the roof motor has failed (water ingress) in the last few weeks. Luckily, the roof motor was only replaced within the last 12 months (previous owner). She has taken it back to the garage who replaced the motor and explained the failure and warranty is still within 12 months. The garage has sent the car to our local BMW dealership who have investigated the fault, and denied any responsibility. They have billed the garage over £300 for the investigation work. The garage are also denying any responsibility saying its a failure of the motor, which is BMW's fault. We are now stuck in the middle and facing a potential massive bill to have the motor replaced. The car is only worth about 5k. Can anyone advise if we have any legal rights, before I ring this mechanic bloke and source a new motor. Summer is on its way and my missus is in a right mood. Luckily this mechanic is only half hour away. PLEASE HELP!
 
If you can get to one of the places we mention regarding moving the motor, you might find if can be salvaged, most can by way of a diesel bath

Why the garage sent you to a BMW dealership does not make sense.They fitted the new motor,so it's up to them to replace it.I take it you have a receipt for the work.Get a quote from a Garage who are experienced in this type of work to replace the motor ,and inform them you will recoup the money via the small claims if they won't budge.
 
They didn't send us to BMW. We took the car to the garage that did the previous motor change, they sent it to BMW for investigation work. Again, probably to push blame onto them, hoping it would be diagnosed as a faulty motor and therefore, BMW 's fault. But BMW are stating its been flooded.
Yes we have receipt of the previous motor change. I imagine their get out answer will be by putting the blame on us for not clearing out the drainage channel. But, as a new owner, we had no idea there was a design fault issue. Not something you would expect from a top marque vehicle manufacturer. I wont be brushed aside easily.
