Reduce door noise

Hi,

So it's may be a stupid question but the noise when you closed the door in Z4 phase 1 (before 2006) is not really pleasant  , and that was corrected on phase 2, someone knows which modification has been done on the doors : Acoustic foam, door seal, ... ? Or some would have an idea to reduce the sound ?? :?

I removed the inner door cards and then fitted sound deadening material.I used one made of a bitumen compound on a foil backing. Cut into strips and stuck all over the outer door skin. Sounds a lot better. Added it to the inside of the bootlid too.

Thanks Jeeper for the links.

Do you know what modification that they have done on the phase 2 for the doors ??

I think they just added some sound deadening material, but will stand corrected if someone knows otherwise

It was sound deadening on the moisture barrier material. The metal on the door is actually still bare. I used Dynamat Xtreme on the metal door panels on mine.

I didn't take any shots of mine while I was applying the dynamat but this thread over on another forum is quite specific about how to go about taking the doors apart to do this task. I used the details Ron Stygar provided when I did mine and found it was detailed enough for me to accomplish the task and get everything reassembled without leaving a trace of what I had done unless you take the door part to look.

Same here - no photos.
Just a case of pullung the door card off and then in my case cutting the mat into small enough pieces to be able to work with through the various holes to enable me to cover every bit of the inside door skin

You should be entering the car thus:

You don't need to touch the doors ;)

Honestly though, that tinny clank says low-weight and dynamicism to anyone listening :poke:

The metal might have no painting on it, but the doors went through the electrolytic zinc bath as the rest of the car.

True - but they sound a lot less like someone smacking a garbage can sound to them once you get a good coverage on the backside with something like Dynamat. The best way to describe the sound of rapping a knuckle on the door panel is more of a thunk sound instead of a clank once you have covered the zinc bath coated metal.
