Red light, no roof

I replaced the pump motor on my 08 Z4 without removing the roof. Now when I open the roof all is good. Roof actuates, goes into the well, led lamp goes out, motor stops. However the roof won't close. Motor runs but roof won't move. If I pick the roof up appox 1/4-1/2" then then try to close it, using the pump it does close. No problem. So now I open the roof, but stop just short of were the roof would stop automatically. But that means I drive around with that light blinking if I have the top down. Is there an adjustment or sensor that can moved to fix this?

First thing to check is fluid level.
When you first operate it after it's been disturbed you may find the level drops as it self-bleeds.
Also if it is now at more of an angle then the inlet port may be partially uncovered and drawing in air.
Stand the motor upright and fill with hydraulic jack oil until it reaches the very top. Ignore the '+' mark on the side.
Then try to orientate it so that the unions are at the lowest side when it is fixed in place.
Hopefully you'll find that is all the problem is.
