I love my red interior :) I've still got some interior bits to sort out but all in all I really like it.

Interesting mod to the Head Unit there
How do you find not having vents in the middle when the roof it up?

That’s still a WIP as you can probably tell by the looks of it ha. Not having vents there hasn’t bothered me yet

If I could get a double din system installed and retain the steering controls...and not miss the central vents I’d consider the upgrade.. I’ll watch how you get on

As it happens - I've already been there & done that. There's a whole Double Din 3D Printed Fascia thread here somewhere - have a search when you get bored lol.

I am about to revisit the 3D Printing part of that project though as just a few days ago I bought a larger printer which could print the parts in a single piece which is Soooo much better!

Anyways, I had the vents, I'd made a 3D Printed re-routing vent system, and had the side vents. However, It does make for a super tight fit that isn't ideal - and eventually after much debating I decided to cut the vent right back (which was easy as I have the sat nav version) and then block it up. Doesn't bother me, was still warm enough when heater was blasting! I did this in the winter originally as you may be able to tell with some of the pics that were mid way through my interior change. (I originally had all beige  ) - I red leather dyed all the Red parts you see. The heater control surrounds is red plasti-dip

Ace. I’ll look thanks

Do you have the STL file(s)
I might be able to get some bits made too :driving:

Of course I do :)

I made it in 123D Design (I'm not a fan or the more complicated CAD programs out there - don't really need them for what I do)

I'll upload them later and give you a link.

Do you have 3D Printers yourself?

PS - you can get steering wheel retention gizmos cheaply enough. I literally retro-fitted the MFSW yesterday 8)

I don’t own a printer but I sort of work with them and might be able to get some parts built
What machine/materials you using ?

PLA+ on a wanhao i3 duplicator v1

I have however just bought a Creality CR-10S :)

Not mad at all to want red sport seats. This was my old Z4 and I loved the red interior combo with grey exterior :D

That's 2 lots of pictures now I've seen with red hand brake leather and gear gator. Might just have to get mine done in red.

Out of curiosity, I've never come across (at least for sale) a black plastic (so not piano black, just plain simple black plastic) center trim. You can see in my pics in previous posts that mine is currently wrapped with CF Vinyl. I did that way back before I did my interior conversion to black and red (I say conversion, it was part swapped plastics, part vinyl dye and the leather parts were all leather dyed)

I don't want the cf wrap anymore because it doesn't really go, however I haven't been able to find just a simple black trim, they're all off grey, grey, silver, aluminium or beige :(

I do like the handbrake levers though - where can I get one?

Retrim FTW :poke:

Where'd you get your handbrake lever from?

Mine was a 1 series Handbrake lever that matches the //M Performance Gear nob. Bought from BMW.

In terms of a simple black wrap for your centre console, ever thought of black brushed aluminium wrap? Always fancied giving that a try.

You can have leather recoloured too. Basically it's a case of sand down the top surface and spray paint on the top colour and then finish with a spray top coat in satin. I had some seats in an old Porsche done and they looked superb afterwards. They can do any colour to any colour. Basically it's the same process as done originally to the leather.

There are DIY kits to do it yourself but I didn't think I had the skillset.

Interesting, I'll have to see if I can find one, I like it!

Not really thought of that, since I've pretty much removed all traces of any "brushed aluminium" pieces

That's exactly what I did! I bought a leather dye kit, which comes with everything you need from the cleaner, prep, scourer pads, colour, finishing top coat etc etc. It's not as hard as you'd think.

Thanks all. Think this basically just cemented that the idea of swapping to standard seats was ludicrous.

I've seen mixed reviews about fitting e89 seats. Some say it can definitely be done, others say it can't. Seems you can pick these up pretty cheap in comparison and could shift on my black Msporta and cover all my costs..

Hmm...
