Red Headlight!

What's going on with my headlight, is it the bulb on its way out or the ballast? It was fine when I took the car out this morning but when I came back it was like this oh and I washed the car today but I don't think that has anything to do with it. The ITV (Spanish MOT) is booked for Thursday, I hope they don't fail it for that.

Usually it is the bulb aging and going south..ballast tend to be more binary..

I guess then it will be a good idea to change both rather than just one. I just hope they don't fail it in the upcoming ITV. Any suggestion for a better replacement bulb? Something more powerful?

I use these…

Thanks for the links Peter, Osrams says upto 220% more brightness and 20% whiter light. Did you notice this?

Bit of marketing fluff..it’s a good strong clean light..the 220 is over the legal minimum bright..the stock e89 bulbs weren’t that low..so yes it’s a bit brighter and certainly a marked improvement over your ‘red eye’..

Wish my stock Volvo xc70 or mini lights were that good..

Without overdriving them with 50 watt bulbs I’m not sure what else you could do..

Good enough for me..

Thanks Peter!

One other related point, the projectors with age have gone cloudy does anyone know if there is a way to clean them without taking the headlights apart? Or on the other hand I guess if you do take them apart is it possible to change the projectors?
