Red handbrake light and heavy steering

So I was happily driving along yesterday when whilst driving the red handbrake light stayed on and the steering became very heavy! A day later and the issue has not gone away!

Does anybody know what has happened here?

Red warning lights mean stop. Do not drive a car with a red warning light. Either call your breakdown company or get a garage to look at it.

To be honest you probably need to get a code reader on it - so if you don't have one going to the garage is your best bet!

But I wouldn't necessarily panic about a red handbrake light as much as a red EML - so long as the brakes work OK and you've checked the fluid level.

Anyway I hope it isn't too serious.

Nope, no flat battery recently and my code reader isn’t showing anything

If you only have a basic obd type reader, it'll only show engine and emissions related codes as it can't speak to all the other modules in the car.
