Red Arrows

I saw these guys twice at the FOS (a few snaps below) and had forgotten how phenomenal they are. Brought back so many memories of going to the Abingdon air show with my grandparents when I was younger that I had to rush over to the RAF stand and buy and inflatable red arrow and hang it in the Drs cabin I was working in as I have a great memory of my grandfather buying me one all those years ago.

They are 50 years old this year - long may it continue.

They're the best fast jet display team on the planet, bar none - the precision in their positioning never ceases to amaze me. I always wanted to be one, closest I got was watching them from atop the wing of a US tanker aircraft at Leuchars. Really great photos Nick, thanks

Need to make sure I get to an air display before the season finishes...

I was ordering an ice cream at the FoS on Friday when they turned up with a low pass right over my head. Scared the hell out of me and I immediately ducked much to the amusement of the girl in the van! Great show!

Great pics. Seen them many times at the TT. I love their display over water as you can usually go up the cliffs and be at the same level and when they come overhead they are really close.

Saw them loads at Leuchars Airshow when I was in the Air Training Corps. Always a fantastic show

They are brilliant!

At FOS they did their flat display. They have three displays; Flat, Rolling and Full.

What display they do depends on weather and location in terms of flight paths around their display area.

The full display is another level of excitement again when compared to the Flat.

Arh - another reason to regret missing the FOS. :(

Red Arrows are one of the better display teams, i'm not sure they're "the best", i find the Italians make me wince more often, partly due to their commentator - who is hilarious.

Typically the guys who land a job in the Reds tend to be.. well, lets say.. "confident" personalities, you'll know they're in the room...

either way, they're a great asset - and hopefully they continue. There was chat of them being culled last year, but i suspect that was quashed. I understand they're actually quite 'cheap' (relative) to hire, if anyone wants a gathering/festival etc flyby.

Some piccies from a few years back:
