Recoverable fine anyone?

My dad sent me that earlier ... Those gantry cameras have always confused me - does anyone know if they flash if you get caught by one? And also does anyone know if they are active for 70mph when displaying nothing? Genuinely I do stick to the limits but useful to know ...

If anyone skim reads this article ... Don't miss the end of it which states they are ACTIVE again and can be used to prosecute !

Some people must have been really taking the P to get caught there, as I usually sit at a (sat-nav) indicated 10mph above the posted limit and have NEVER been flashed - and I've used that road weekly for as long as I can remember.

Only about 1in 3 has an active, and the original marketing material for it said that they'd only flash/prosecute if there was a limit on the display. However, over the last couple of years, they have admitted that they'll also catch anyone doing 100+ whether there's a limit shown or not. So I stick to 99mph :P

i got caught by one of these last year going through warwickshire!

tossers!

i was doing 61mph through one of those signs which i thought said 60mph, but it infact said 50mph :x :x :x

ended up paying £95 and doing a speed awareness course.

The article has a point ... Used to drive through them all the time and skipped a beat a few times thinking 60 when it was 50 :-s at least you didn't have to take points! So ... Can't you look at getting your money back then ??

i'm not sure. the article talks about specific junctions and i can't remember where i got caught, although i'm sure it was the M42. will have to dig out the paperwork.

suppose i could ask for my £95 back. can't get the 4 hours of my life back, unfortunately.

When I went to the Midlands Meet they alternated 50, 40, 50, 40..... What was that all about? :headbang:

They may as well have left it at 70 because it was bloody dangerous if you ask me everybody altering their speed every few hundred yards.
