The service manager warned me not to use cheapo stuff - He reckoned it was prone to gunking up the system. He said that the filter was low in the screen wash tank and was £120 to remove and clean.
As I have about three big bottles of concentrate in the garage I will probably risk it! I haven't had any trouble before.

For anything other than depths of winter use, I like the Sonax ClearView concentrate - the recommended ratio is 1:100 so 25ml is enough for a complete refill of the washer bottle even on the F20. It's also a small/light enough container that you can keep it in the boot for quick dosing if you run out while away from home (as long as you can find somewhere you can get water)

Just cleaned out the filter in the M this morning since the jets were only producing a tiny squirt. 10 mins later and the filter was cleaned of all the black and blue gunky mess and the jets were spraying perfectly again. There must be a reason for the gunk forming though, but as long as you clean the filter from time to time, it shouldn't be a problem.
I've only ever used Tesco concentrate, or if I'm feeling real lazy, ready mixed. Never bad an issue

Ordinarily I'd say, "get the cheapest stuff, it's all the same." However, shortly after I got my car the washers gunked up, which is due to them having a fine filter that demands BMW's own screen wash. I'm sure that from the many brands out there, there are plenty that are fine but you're not going to know for a while as the 'gunking' happens over a period of time. The BMW stuff, as someone has already said, isn't as ridiculously expensive as I expected it to be and so I've stuck with it.
