Recommended washer fluid

BMW, it is recommended plus it seems good value whenever I get it. Plus it smells good AMD neat it isn't bad as a glass cleaner.

Also - don't mix it with other washer, eg halfrauds as it can build up a residue/jelly around the filters and pump.

Really?

Never considered it so don't know the costs. I'll probably be shot and ostracised by some forum members but surely most washer fluids are perfectly adequate. As long as the residue doesn't strip paint!

Also use cheap car plan stuff from Morrisons. Though the BMW stuff does smell good enough to drink :D

BMW stuff, mostly for the fragrance, secondly because it doesn't ever sludge or freeze which saves expensive repairs to the headlamp washers.

A good alternative would be nice to know!

Had never considered this (though luckily in the 6 months of weekend ownership I've never had to top up)

Anybody have a link to the BMW stuff?

I can see that. Upon purchasing a 1 series for my daughter the washer system smelt disgusting and I mean bad enough to make you feel sick. Stripped it out, flushed with Milton tablets and refilled - perfect ever since, but I hate to think what had happened to the water in it

if you're changing to and from BMW washer fluid, fill up once with water in between, read somewhere that BMW washer fluid doesn;t like normal washer fluid and the mixing of the two causes the "gunking"

Oh, and you can get the BMW stuff on Ebay

I just get the cheapest Halfords stuff... nothing wrong with them IMO.

Yea I just used the Halfords ready mixed, sometimes on offer of by one get one free. It's only washer fluid :)

probably teaching you to suck eggs but I was surprised when shopping around to see some don't specify the temperature at which they will remain liquid! How do you know what you are buying? Always check how low they will protect you down to.

Yes, there appears to be a fair bit of discussion on other BMW forums also. I've been using stuff from Lidl or Aldi can never remember on my old Audi & it seems to be very good, that was on recommendation from others but smells awful, not sure whether i want to take the chance with my Zed

Cheap concentrate stuff from asda or tesco for me it seems to do a good enough job never had a problem.

The BMW Official washer fluid is magic .. it's not expensive, it has a nice smell, comes in a really cool bottle, and my wipers run smooth as silk with it. :D

How much is not expensive? I'm not running a tight budget but would just like to know. :)

~£20 for 5 litres from the service department but off to check ebay.

1 part fluid:2 water dilution for -12 protection.
