Recommended oils and service

Hi All,
I purchased recently a 2008 3.0Si Coupe with 24,000 Miles on it.
car has been Maintained by previous owner in a certified BMW dealership , but because of the low milage all that has been done up to this point was to change motor oil and filters.

since the car is 6 years old i am thinking of going to a more comprehensive oil change.

what i was thinking of was :
- Gear oil change
- Motor oil change
- Diff oil change

Have i missed anything ?
what are the best oils to use on our cars ?

Thanks !

None of these are in the ?BMW service schedule being sealed for life on non ///M. I certainly wouldn't worry at 24k.

Just change the engine oil.

You have missed engine coolant, but again not a service item anymore.

Personally I would be tempted to do both the Air Filter and Spark plugs as well as the oils and fluids!

I recently discovered my 75,000 mile 3.0Si Coupé had never had its air filter changed and when quizzed, Bowker BMW/Mini seemed to think this was absolutely fine and normal!

Brake fluid is well worth doing too if there's no evidence of its change in the past 24 months!

As for oils, you can't go wrong with Shell Helix or Castrol Edge!

Srhutch - I am aware none are actually in the service manual , however i am not really at ease with 6 years old oils in my car. i rather be extra safe than sorry at any point of time.

As for the Air Filter , Currently there is a BMC inbox filter which i will be changing for K&N inbox filter , i don't really see any additional benefits in going for a full intake and actually believe it will mainly suck more hot air off the engine.

for the brakes , yes, i haven't thought about it and surely it is important . maybe it is also a good time to go for braided brake hoses , would also be glad to get any recommendation and experience with those.

For Shell helix, what type ? 5-40 ? what diff oil and Gear oil ?

For the engine oil: Helix Ultra 5W-40 (6.5 Litres)
For the Diff: Castrol Syntrax Long Life 75W-90 (1.2 Litres)
For the Gearbox: Castrol Syntrans B 75W (unsure on Quantity)

The only people who I can find that sell Braided lines for the 3.0Si model are ECS Tuning in America.
Front pair
Rear pair

Hope this helps :)

I got my braided hoses from eBay, Hel from memory was the brand, they are excellent quality and arrived fast

They made a good improvement to the car also :)

The Hel ones are great, but they don't do any to suit the 3.0Si model :(
Neither do Goodridge, HoseTechnik or Tarox.

They should do,

Im using the 3.0si brake set up on my 3.0i and they fit perfectly, the E46 330ci shares the same fronts brakes also.

Interesting stuff... I'll give HEL a call this afternoon see what they have listed. If not I work for a UK distributor for ECS anyway so will just go with them when I get around to doing mine.

If you get pricing from them and they can ship a set to israel , count me in.

however i DID find a set on ebay for the 3.0si :

Here we go!

So, it turns out that the E85 and E86 models ranging from the 2.0i all the way up to the 3.0Si all use the same brake hose part numbers!
Front - Mfg# 34326766966
Rear - Mfg# 34326757744

The only ones that have anything different are the 'M' models.
- This means that I can now get HEL, Hose Technic, Tarox and ECS Tuning brake hoses for the 3.0Si :)
- So that's quite a lot for me to choose from!
