Recommended Main Dealer Near Stevenage

My Z4m is just about due an Inspection1.

Can anyone give a recommendation (or otherwise) for a main dealer within say 50 miles of Stevenage?

I know there are two good independents in Stevenage ( plus specialist cars ) but it's AUC so needs to be main dealer this time.

I'm hoping you can share good and bad experiences to warn me away if needed from somewhere other wise I'll call around and go for the best price if there's a difference.

Thanks in Advance!

My son has used Specialist in Stevenage since 1996 always very happy ( just checked with him )
Purchased several new /nearly new BMWs and always uses them for service
He suggests you mention it is your car and they will often reduce labour rate .........ie it is not a company (leased )car

I had my ///M for 3 days took it into specialist at stevenage (to secure a loose undertray ) they brought the car out with a scuff on the front bumper , i pointed it out they said it wasnt them i insisted it was , they then consutled their cctv seen the guy hitting the car , told me to bring the car to their paintshop , no apology or anything else , now my car is out of warranty i will be going the indie route as i have no intention of ever selling it , but in short if you do bring it to them in stevenage i would advise doing what i did (they did insp 1 and tried charging me for brake fluid even though it wasnt due for another year ! ) insist on a rep to inspect the car before handing it over , the best bit was there was an older gent in the service area at the time , he asked me why i had insisted i told him in front of a packed service area fairly loudly what had happened to my pup and told him if i was him with a lovely 6 series i would have a good look round it before i drove off ! :D :D  the looks i got from the staff was priceless in short i would try milton keynes the bosch/bmw guy in hitchin says they have the best local rep , but i have had no exp of their work/service , hope this was a small help in making your decision . sorry for the long long post

Settled for Stevenage in the end. Will be re reading this useful post again though http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=28369

Elms Bedford quoted £884 inc vat I asked if that was their best price as i was calling round to check, this reduced it to £711.

Specialist started at £703 dropped to £600 if I provide the oil.

Oil £54 delivered.

£230 ( circa 25%) difference is just outrageous IMHO.

I just spent the last couple of days ringing round for the Inspection 2 on my MR. A lot of people suggesting ringing Cotswolds BMW first to get their price, then getting local dealer to price match.

In doing so I managed to get my local dealer to drop the price by an extra £120. They didn't quite match the Cotswolds price (Which was £870.54) but they came close at £900. (Those prices were all inclusive labour/parts/vat).

I'd suggest giving Cotswolds BMW a call, get their price, then get Stevenage to price match if its cheaper!!

Inkey$.... Yep, car is booked in tomorrow, dropping the car off this evening. Having and Insp 2 and brake fluid change done. Wonder what else they'll try and get me for to make up for the price drop!!

Dont use Specialists in Stevenage...they are expensive and not worth it....

I live in Welwyn and have used A1 BM Specialists for years (from all types of BMW i have owned including an M5).....they do a great job, are trustworthy and cost effective...

See here for their priceson Z4's and Z4M.....

Doesn't really fit the OP's requirement for a main dealer though (as the car is on AUC), does it?

All went well...

I dropped the car off Thursday morning, checked over for damage with them , agreed there was none etc. etc. They even gave me a lift back to work.

We did have a brief discussion where they tried to tell me I had the wrong oil for it - nice try I thought!

Got a call Friday morning at 8:45 that worried me (thinking £££!) but no just to tell me all is OK, it's not ready yet but should be ready for 12.

Bit odd I to call to say nothings wrong and it's going as expected I thought, maybe they thought I was missing it after a night apart

Call to say it was ready duly came just before 12 - all done.

Only one unexpected issue in that the bill was £15 less than quoted - I won't complain!

Overall a good experience (if you ignore cost) and, yes, I could have gone to one of the two BM independents in Stevenage but AUC dictated otherwise.

More feedback on Specialist cars today....

Dropped it in Monday morning for an amber EML light, I suspected an oxygen sensor.

Duly diagnosed a such, part not in stock so ordered overnight,

Collected today all seems OK now sensor fitted - invoice covered by AUC . They found some bare wires in DME ( cruise control mod I guess, see other post) which they decided they would fix at (my) vast expense.

They also seemed to think a 19 mile road test was perfectly acceptable which I'd entirely disagree with.

What say you???
