Recommendations now my headlight is removed?

Good evening Z world!

I've had a headlight full of condensation since removing the back cover to change a blown bulb. Turns out the bulb isn't blown but it looks like a ballast failure. I drained about 1/2 pint from the light! The main plug for the headlight was soaked so going to hope that works when it's dried! The whole headlight is now in my airing cupboard drying out for a week!

Tomorrow I'm going to order a new ballast (will try my local BMW, sopers, breakers and Euro car parts)
I'm also going to order the rear cover for the headlight as I believe it's this thats letting water in.

Is there anything else I should be aware of or fix while I'm at this stage?
Luhansk :)

I ordered my ballast from ebay as it was cheaper.
It is recommended to buy a new rear cover to the headlight as the seal may have perished and will leak again if not replaced.

Hey buddy, how you doing?
Do you have a link to the one you bought?

Im going to order the covers today i think they're only about £10 each. Strange though how the drivers side is perished and leaks, whereas the passenger has reconnected fine

When I did mine, both failed. I then did the angel eye project as I had both headlights out (although I would only recommend that if you are willing to fut lights open).
I ordered from wipers. I'll fetch a part number.

Drivers side rear cover should be part number: 6928414
Sopers BMW give good quotes, I'd give them a call they also give forum discounts if you mention that you came from here.

I had same issue with my drivers side, except some one hadnt fitted a back cover

I originally bought one from ebay for £50, which didnt work, and the seller did refund and let me keep the unit, when i opened the unit it definetly didnt look to be a hella ballast, the parts looked cheap inside and like no others ive seen

In the end i got a 2nd hand one from http://www.hids-direct.co.uk/categories/manufacturer/BMW/Z4/2003-08/

63 12 6 907 488

this worked and tbh doesnt really cost that much more,

When i refitting it all back together i used vasiline around all the seals and connecctions, i know someone on here siliconed all the rubbers and ballast edges

Turns out when I said ballast, i meant the xenon ignitor that clicks onto the back of the bulb :headbang:

Ballast from BMW is £330! Thankfully the igniter is only £80.

My headlight has some water marks and dirt inside it from where it's dried out, can I swill it out with distiller/deionised water to get rid of the water marks?

Id have got igniter from that link i sent you,

Ye i used RO water as its very pure and i have gallons of if.just keep swilling it in and out until u get as many marks off as you can.

id also take ballast off and check if waters got into that too, as it seeps through the connection and right inside ballast

Be careful swilling them if you have silver inners. Mine perished when wet and flaked off so had to cut them open and respray them.
