Recommendations for decent 150mm polishing pads

Hello

Iv just bought a machine polisher and I need to buy some 6” pads for it, are the cheap ones on eBay any good or is it worth spending more for some decent ones?

Is that a rotary or dual action? If rotary then definitely watch a few videos first as the margin for error is much lower. If you can return/exchange then opt for a dual action as it’s more forgiving to us amateurs.

I’d normally say go for microfibre pads but start with some hexlogic orange foam pads to give you a good place to start.

It’s a random orbital polisher.

Different colour pads represent different hardness, so more or less cut. Generally orange for cutting and white for finishing. With your machine go with a meguiars microfibre cutting pad and then a finishing pad.

I don’t want to wazz on your bonfire Arthur, but that polisher looks like hard work for a number of reasons;

1) Weight,... surely that’s pretty heavy, with the battery pack, compared to a mains powered DA? My DAS 6 Pro isn’t exactly light and that’s without a battery pack. It’s physically much harder work than it looks, so extra weight isn’t going to help.
2) To correct the paintwork on a car takes hours & hours to do it properly (especially hard BMW paint)... what’s the run time of the battery pack when used virtually continuously? Did it come with two batteries and what’s the charge time?

Honestly, if you haven’t used it yet and you can return it for a mains powered DA polisher I would do so

Also, microfibre pads... they have a more effective cut at lower speeds. It’s far easier on hard paints

I'd agree with True blue on this 100%....I've got the Das 6 pro as well and that isn't light, and you'll be surprised at how taxing on the back this is after just 30 mins of compounding. I'd return it if possible and get the Das 6 Pro and you'll be on the right track.

Lake country microfibre compounding pads, and foam polishing pads, a little pricey, but well worth it.
Dual action polishing machines would be my recommendation, as rotary machines can do more harm than good in the wrong hands.
Flex dual action machines are fantastic as I have used them in my son’s business, but they are very expensive.
