Recommendations - back box delete

Hi guys,

Wondering if anyone can recommend somewhere to do a back box delete?

Ideally around the Milton Keynes, Northampton, Bedford area - happy to travel 30-60 mins if it saves me money.

For context, I’ve contacted 2 local places but i can’t help but feel their quotes are steep, considering the fairly basic work involved…

Deutsch Tech quoted approx £350 inc tips
Overkill Performance approx £350-400 (depending on which tips I want)

Having googled this, I’ve seen dozens of posts from various forums with people saying £150-250…

Are my expectations unrealistic? It’s times like this I wish I could weld :D

Another question is - what have people paid that have already had this done?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Can’t help, but if I hear of anyone local that can do a good job at a fair price, I’ll let you know. I’m in Buckingham.

My first suggestion is... don't do it!
But if you must, then go to somewhere that will make it easily reversible. When I bought my current zed it had a delete (JP Exhausts in Congleton) but they had used flange connections and not just welded on two pipe sections.
I thought the noise was way OTT so simply had a [modified] back box with matching flanges bolted back on. Two bolts in each flange mean I can swap it over again any time I like.

Thank for the reply - seem to be getting mixed feedback and I have had several other people say to avoid this.

I’ve contacted a few custom exhaust places so I’ll likely go down this route as it seems modding the z4 back box is a faff for some of these places

If you don't mind a road trip down to Basildon, Dean at a place called Pipecraft is an exhaust mod wizard.

I have it, I love it. Horses for courses.

I paid £320 for mine, about 3 years ago. Top quality job. You get what you pay for, so the prices quoted don’t seem that bad to me.

Thank you - all feedback is appreciated and TBH I do prefer a slightly louder exhaust. This is purely a hobby/weekend car that mainly lives in the garage unless I want to hit up a backroad

I've heard a 3.0Si with a back-box delete and I really couldn't live with it!

But after the same car had quad tail-pipes fitted it made a huge difference - still loud but more acceptable IMHO.

I also have my rear box removed and love it, love the pops n bangs on overrun. It does boom a bit on load around 70mph but above that goes away.

I don't use my zed as a daily so the fun factor with it is still very much there. :driving:

The way your pipes are routed I wonder if it makes a difference to the sound.

Mines in parallel all the way to the tips, with that cross over pipe I wonder if the sound is disturbed.
