Recommend new battery (and weird noise)

Yes, its a manual. I'll try and check if it happens when in neutral or only when actually in gear.

Often you get a minor bit of whine from manual box and/or rear diff ..

Camchain wise if you remove oil filler cap and peer with torch if you see ANY swarf espcially a brown plastic then you are in deep doo-doo

Thanks.

I’ll look in the oil cap and see if I can see anything.

Did have an oil service a month or two ago but will let you know what I find.

So here's some videos:

This is the one I referred to earlier, that has the whining noise (only need to listen to first 25 secs)

Here's mine. Deb was in the car revving to 2k rpm and kind of holding it at that level. Don't know why I kept moving the camera.

...and heres an unrelated video of a monsoon earlier in the year! (sh1t my pants!)

Yeah thats an eye opener if I ever saw one. Great response. ;-)

I was very lucky not to crash - luckily the bit where I was heading for the curb was just level grass, not a curb stone etc. I bet the mini bus driver chuckled at my misfortune.

Never seen it flood there before so wasn’t expecting it, should’ve probably been a bit slower as it was raining but hey ho, was fortunate that day. I was on the Goodyear non run flats, wonder what the outcome would’ve been on runflats?

Changed mine to 80ah to give a bit more...

Thank you.

Decided to go with same specs as original so just need to pick one now.

Although, what is the benefit to fitting a higher rated battery?

Do they all come with the vent hole?

All AGM batteries come with an emergency vent...under all normal conditions the gases are recombined...the vent is just got badly gone wrong events..

80ah just gives more reserve capacity before things get shut down when the predicted capacity and/or voltage run low...

So roof motors run slightly longer without the engine running..audio runs longer etc..

So you get 1/7 more reserve ...

Replaced my 2009 original battery today. Awaiting an ODB device I have ordered so I can register it, but the car is already aware it has more oomph as the top now opens with the remote. I think 11 years out of a battery is brilliant, especially for something like the Z4 with large power demand.

Cool. Was it easy? I guess it’s just a bit fiddly?

Yes, you need a 13mm spanner for the bracket and 10 for the pos and neg connections. You also need a 13 extended socket to remove the bolt from the battery bracket.
What I did try to do was use jump leads on the engine bay to try and keep the power on, but I must not have connected correctly as the power still went off.

Does it matter if the power goes off (I guess you mean no power whilst the battery is swapped)?

Do you have to reset a load of things?

No and no...just make sure you don’t transiently connect cables by accident..pull the connector clean away and stow carefully..be very careful on the IBS sensor in the negative lead..easily damaged by insensitive handling

I tried to keep the power on as I've had other cars where the ecu gets reset and the car runs horribly until it learns driving style etc again. No such problems here, only had to reset the clock.
