recomendations/suggestions on x-pipe ?

Now as much as I love my new M to pieces I do want it to be a bit louder, now I love the stock sound but just want more growl and volume so from what Iv read the best way to go for this is stick with stock back boxes but just replace the x-pipe with a free flowing one without a resonator? Plus from what I gather most after market exhausts for the M actually reduce power if anything and keeping the stock exhaust boxes but replacing the x-pipe is the best way to get any sort of gains or at least not loose power, what x-pipe is best to get to fit with the rest of the stock system? :-P:-D
 
Funnily enough I have been thinking about/planning to do exactly this.

As far as I can tell no one makes a straight through X-pipe that is a direct swap, both Hayward & Scott and Supersprint make one but they have proprietary connectors to their own back boxes.

I think you have two options:

1. Get H&S to make an x-pipe with standard flange fittings and install it to your car - I asked them about this and they quoted around 6-700 supplied and fitted.

2. Get a Supersprint or other straight through X-pipe (perhaps used?) and then get an exhaust specialist to do the modifications - someone on here posted about having this done to the std exhaust, more for reliability reasons I recall - worth looking out that thread

Given that I already have a Superspint x-pipe I will probably follow option 2. This is the main reason I have turned down all the low ball offers for my Supersprint exhaust in the classifieds.
 
+1 for H&S option. Or consider a custum pipe from Zero Exhausts. The guy is an artist (and amazingly cheap) when it comes to his love of exhausts!

Personally, I would get the back boxes first, at least to get rid of those dangling man sack looking thing. Remus is the most quiet (about +10% over OE). Stromung is a bit more louder (approx. +20% over OE). IMHO, for not much more money over an X-pipe, bock boxes should be the first mod.

FYI...not sure where you hear that aftermarket exhausts for the M actually reduce power. If by that logic, a free-er flowing back boxes makes the ///M lose power, then why wouldn't a free-er flowing X-pipe do the same (lose power)?
 
I like the combo of stock xpipe for the nice resonator it has, free flow mufflers and a free flow cat section !! This will give your lovely straight 6 a proper voice!! The stock xpipe is a nice piece IMO...

Not sure this is the same but, I removed the cat from my mini and the increased temps after that point killed the internals of my mufflers.
