Recomendations replacing Run Flats with Standard Tyres

Based on previous suggestions I fitted Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta non runflats on my reconditioned 18" MV2 rims. Didn't cost the earth and I am more than happy with them. No more tramlining and despite going from 16" to 18" rims better ride quality :D

Ultrac Sessanta are a great tyre.

I was planning on sticking with them until I did a quick price check on the Michelin PSS and found them to only be about £30 more for the set.

I can't compare them directly with the Vreds as I had the Vreds on a 3 series and have the Michelin on my Z4 but they were certainly a great tyre.

This might sound like a silly question but can you replace just a pair at a time? Only asking as my fronts will need replacing soon but the rears have about 5/6mm left on them. I'd like to get rid of the run flats but don't want to waste good tread on the rears.

What do people think of the pirelli's or toyo's?

I would replace all 4.

I haven't tried mixing them myself but I can imagine the lack of grip on the runflats will make the car handle very oddly at the front.

FYI - I told my insurance company that i replaced the run flats with normal tyres. Here's their response:

Dear .....

Thank you for your e-mail.

Swiftcover has no objections to replacing the run flat tyres with standard tyres..

The tyres must be used in the correct driving conditions and be suitable for your vehicle.

If your tyres need to be replaced in the event of a claim, we will replace your tyres on a like for like basis.

I hope this answers your query.

Yours sincerely

Depends on your budget.

Loads of people here use falken 452/3... Prob the best value for money.

I had vreds before, and now have Goodyear Eagle f1's mainly as i like the lip on them to offer some (minimal) protection from the curbs.

I have a couple of cans of holts tire weld.... And a compressor in my boot.... However if i get a puncture i'd just call recovery!

Obviously it's a compromise to run RFT's and non at the same time.
I'd never do it on a performance car as you find how different they are just as you approach the bend too fast ....

Some have however done it and lived :)
