Thanks guys. The stubby is from ebay, the link was provided by Keith, it was just under £8 and so far the radio reception is ok.

The wait in the final few weeks is horrible....at one point my car wasn't meant to be at the dealer until 2nd April, and collect next weekend, so it was a week early.

Kev - where are you based? My detailer comes from Bristol. He charges for mileage at 50p a mile outside a radius of 35 miles from Bristol, so it cost me £60 travel fees. The detail was £150. Many detailers charge more than this, but Zaff certainly isn't a cheap (i.e. poor) service, he treats the car as if it were his, and is quite OCD about getting it right, which is excellent for the customer! The detail I had didn't include any correction, but when he saw the swirls he said he would machine polish the car to get rid of them, without extra charge. Depending on your location, I'd definitely recommend him (www.project-karma.co.uk) but if distance means the travel charge will be too high, then I'm sure there are other excellent detailers nearer you, and people on here and babybmw.net will be able to help you out.

The car will be dirty tomorrow, but the point of the detail was to get the paintwork perfect, then seal it in and give it some protection. As long as I wash it right, it should stay in good condition - as you say Tim, gotta keep on top of it, but I fear I won't be doing it every week.

Hey Kevin, I'm in the North West nr Warrington so a bit of a way from Bristol...

Stupid question I asked regarding finding a detailer, just googled my area and returned pages and pages of them, I supose it is knowing who you can trust to do a good job. Some are charging really silly prices from £180 to £750 for a new car detail minus paint correction.

Sounds like you got a great job for a great price.

Cheers...

For the north west, speak to Miglior Detailing, Accringtom way on. His new car details are at the £150+ point and he's very very well respected. Drop my name and have a word...

Yeah, I found Zaff from a recommendation on babybmw.net, it is a minefield, so look into Maniac's suggestion.

The price can vary - some do a swissvax detail, using swissvax products (expensive) - Zaff will do this but it is an extra £100 and he reckons I'd never know the difference, and apparently it needs more regular top ups.

I dont know what they could charge £750 for!

I've used Zaff twice now, he's a very likeable guy and does a great job. I don't mind paying the travel costs in order for him to come down, cos I'm confident in his work - which is worth its weight in gold, so if you find a detailer you like and its good work, I'd stick with him/her.

Because the dealer is doing the seal & protect I may leave it for a few months and then have a proper detail job done, I believe they remove any seal or protection before they do their stuff...I will wait for it to dull off a bit and then get the benefit of a mega shine.

Maniac, thanks for the shout I will certainly follow-up on your recommendation when the time is right.

Cheers...Kevin.

Swissvax is expensive stuff, and that's what Miglior use. I'd say at £750 you're looking at a full paint correction, wheels, glass, interior, the works. I'm still on the fence with mine, I'd love to see her with a full correction, every swirl removed, in sapphire black it would look like glass! But I can also find other uses for £500+

Yeah Swissvax is expensive. Zaff does Swissvax details also, and says the price instantly goes up by £100 just due to using the different product. I guess as you say, £750 must be full paint correction etc. On a brand new car, it shouldn't need much - mine needed a light machine polish to get rid of dealer swirls.

On a black car though it would be money well spent...so long as you kept up a good wash regime afterwards.
