Recall!

Had to go to Sytner's last week. They asked for my keys. 'Read' them and announced: 'You've got an undone recall'.

They did it (for free, of course), gave the car a 'health check', washed & hoovered it and I was pleased. :)

What model do you have? What year? What was the recall for?! :P

Wondering if I should get in touch with my local dealer about mine.

Happy days OP! Looks like you got a potentially serious issue sorted.

Yes a description of the recall would be helpful.. from a now worried fellow 35is owner

Can't even understand what an "undone" recall is????

There may well be other ways of doing this, perhaps with your VIN online, but, if you go to your local authorised BMW dealer, they should have a record of whether your car has had all the work done on it required by (any) recalls.

Sytner accessed my records, beginning by using the information in the key, and my car needed a 'recall job' that took 2 hours.

Did they not give you a description of the work carried out or is it a secret? :P

My car went into Sytners last September and I wasn't made aware of any recalls so I am wondering whether this is a recent issue? What year is your 35is please?

ermmm... i guess a recall... which hasn't been done

You can search by year/make/model here and then check against your VIN.

https://www.gov.uk/check-if-a-vehicle-has-been-recalled

Few in there for the E89

Thanks Mister T

There's an app called Digital Garage that gives you a lot of info about your car and will flag up alerts as well. I have also been on the site Mister T suggested and will give you the recall problem and what VIN numbers it affects. Very good for giving you peace of mind.

Mine went in a couple of weeks back.

It was FoC. Carry out outstanding QE - Installing repair cable for the positive terminal.

I haven't lifted the bonnet to see what was done.

Just booked my 35is for a service with BMW dealer and they have said that the car needs the same QE repair to the positive terminal due to potential damage all FOC

Having owned an N47 engined diesel in the past I'd definitely want to see what was alleged to have been done!

"QE" on those tractor power-plants potentially meant a new cam-chain (which means engine out as the chain is at the back of the engine just to add to the stupidity and cost of course)

Plus on early models a new crankshaft as well!

Still I sold mine before it died or got to be uneconomical to repair which was well before BMW finally started to pick up the tab for designing a product that wasn't fit for purpose! - Lucky escape!

Nah, because BMW, Michelin and Goodyear/Dunlop say not.

Sitting in my Dealers at the moment waiting for the dreaded MOT and was informed of the positive battery cable recall. Gonna get mine done when I have the brake fluid change later in the year.
