Recall - BBC News

There was another recall last year for a flexible disc in the drive train/prop-shaft. I don't think all cars were affected. Mine was also affected by the earlier recall for the battery connector. I don't know exactly how long it took as I dropped the car off in the morning and picked it up in the evening. The flexible disk didn't need changing, no doubt when it fails in a couple of years time it will cost a fortune to fix... :? :? :?
Cheers, Dave

I had my car in on Thursday, took around 1 and a half hours to do they did a complimentary health check with a video as per usual (I assume this was a quick check as all they could complain about is the tyres, didn't check the fact that my roof is playing up LOL) and a complimentary valet (again half-assed and did a clean myself not to mention they didn't vacuum the boot). But its free so i shouldn't really complain

Just picked mine up from Ocean ,as others have said, battery lead replacement. Declined the free valet especially as they mentioned they had over 50 cars coming through today! Had a diesel mini as a courtesy, off the line ok, HUD was nice, seats were comfy. I know it's a mini but damn it felt small inside, much smaller cabin than the Z

Does anyone know what exactly is replaced. I was told mine was completed today while it was in for something else. Nothing looks any different in the battery and main fuse area.

Haha sounds familiar. I love the idea of the video thing. It's just a shame they clearly don't care about looking after the cars. And the "valet" is just comical. :D

Its not E89 specific matey, the recall covers several models in the BMW range which all have the same parts installed.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_xnuw3q1ZU play from 5min 15sec, will give you a decent outline of the problem.
Had mine done today at Ocean BMW Plymouth. Car was there for 08:00, I got a 420 convertible for the day and it was finished, washed and internally valeted with a complete safety inspection done for 15:00.

But the e89 is different to all the rest as the battery is in the boot, the rest aren’t so it looks quite different.

That isn't unique to the E89 - both my E46s, both my E86s, my E87 and E91 all have the battery in the boot!

As the original recall was for cars built after March 2007 I thought I'd be in the clear with mine.

Although my 56 plate Z4C doesn't have a recall outstanding, my 06 plate E91 does - but when I rang my local Sytner yesterday they don't have the parts yet, so I'm on their waiting list! :(

You just aint got the moves for the ladies my friend
I can tel you one thing for sure, the Z4 is a FAR better car in every way. This was an Msport with white leather, convertible and a 4 pot diesel. Sounded like a tractor and drove like a bouncy castle. More bits of string holding the headlining up than a boy scout keeps in his pocket.

The faulty part does not have to be next to the battery, I think it is part of the blower control mechanism, so far as I could tell its a resistor block or something similar. These get very hot during operation.
