D deka Senior member Sep 6, 2012 #2 I can see any need for putting sealant between the split pieces, they did not do it from the factory and i cannot see it stopping the ingress of water under the paint

S srhutch Lifer East Sussex, UK Sep 6, 2012 #3 a Bead or clear silicone on the inner seam once reassembled will help keep the corrosion at bay.
